Women's Basketball Extends Win Streak To Four In Home Victory Against York On National Girls Women In Sports Night

New York, NY - The John Jay women's basketball team earned their fourth straight victory Tuesday evening at The Doghouse, defeating the visiting York College Cardinals, 76-51.

Three Bloodhounds finished in double-figures, led by Ashley Zeolla, who poured in a team-high 21 points on 7 of 13 shooting from the field while connecting on 2 of 4 from the outside and 5 of 6 from the line. The Yorktown Heights, NY native added six rebounds, three assists, and a block to her ledger in 37 minutes of play. 

Michaela Lattimore added 16 points on 8 of 10 shooting while grabbing three rebounds and dishing out two helpers.

Natalie Simonds was the third Bloodhound to score in double-digits, finishing with 10 points, eight caroms, three assists, and a steal.

All seven players that suited up scored at least four points, with Ayanna Edwards and Morgan Kimmi finishing with nine. Kimmi was one rebound shy of a double-double, grabbing a career-high 10 caroms. Alexis Jones scored seven points while grabbing five rebounds and added a steal in her start this evening. Hadja Bah corralled a team-leading 12 rebounds, nine coming on the defensive end.

Alicia Gumbs led the way for the visiting Cardinals, scoring a game-high 33 points on 12 of 26 shooting while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out five helpers.

Simonds scored the contest's first points, hitting a jumper before Madison Plaza answered back for the visitors. John Jay staged a 12-0 run, capped by a Zeolla three-pointer off the feed from Jones, as the Bloodhounds went ahead, 14-2. 

York rallied back, as Gumbs scored six of the Cardinals' eight points, as the visitors narrowed the gap to 16-10 at the end of the first quarter.

Jones kick started the second quarter by swishing a deep wing three-pointer, as the Bloodhounds went up by nine, 19-10. This started a 16-4 run by the home team, in which they converted on 6 of 10 from the field and 2 of 5 from three-point range. The backcourt duo of Edwards and Jones combined for ten of the 16 points during the run as York was held to one made field goal in ten chances.

The Cardinals finished the stanza scoring seven of the final 13 points. Kimmi banked home a contested layup that pushed John Jay's lead to 38-21 heading into the locker room. 

The Bloodhounds hit on 5 of 6 to start the third quarter, outscoring York 10-7, as Zeolla buried the mid-range jumper at the 7:17 mark. John Jay outscored York, 27-16, to extend their lead 66-37 after the third quarter.

York outscored John Jay, 14-11, in the fourth quarter as the Cardinals converted 33.3 percent in the frame while the Bloodhounds were held to just 27.8 percent.

For the game, the Bloodhounds hit 48.4 percent from the floor while limiting York to just 29.2 percent. John Jay held a 51-32 edge on the boards and a blistering 39-21 advantage on the defensive end. 

The Bloodhounds will look for their fifth straight victory on Friday as they will travel to Hunter on Friday with a 5:00 p.m. tipoff.
