Men's Soccer Battles Hunter To 1-1 Draw To Open CUNYAC Play On Wednesday

New York, NY - The John Jay men's soccer team commenced CUNYAC play on Wednesday afternoon, scoring the game-tying marker in the 20th minute off the foot of Alejandro De Jesus as they drew even with the defending league champions, Hunter, 1-1, at Randall's Island - Field 70.

The Bloodhounds (1-8-1; 0-0-1) were outshot 20-14 but had eight chances on target to the Hawks' (3-4-2; 0-0-1) seven chances. John Jay's Davio Rossilevin made five stops while his counterpart, Max Tsigalnitsky, was credited with seven shots.

The Hawks got on the board first, as Leonardo Kaplan buried the chance past Rossilevin after gaining the feed from Bejhon Alerte to give Hunter the early lead. The defending champions continued to control the early tempo of the match, as Georgios Tsiakas, Yassine Jaballah, and Kaplan fired attempts that were off the mark within four minutes.

The Bloodhounds found the right combination and rewarded De Jesus for his second goal of the season after Karl Menuau and Eden Haftzadi created the opportunity. The Hawks tried to counter with three chances, but the Bloodhounds' defense was there to block those attempts, keeping the score tied at 1-1. John Jay sent three chances as Aaron Cedillo, Andrew Provenzano, and Josh Clemas all tried for the go-ahead score, but Tsigalnitsky was there for the stop.

With time nearly expiring in the first half of play, Helmer Herrera fired one high center of the goal, but Tsigalnitsky made the save, concluding the first 45 minutes of the game.

As play resumed, Hunter seized the momentum, getting the ball on target as Patrick Irving blasted a chance that a Bloodhound defender was able to clear out before Alerte tried to push one past Rossilevin, who was up to the task in preserving the stalemate.

The two goalkeepers traded big stops, as Rossilevin thwarted a chance by Kaplan in the 62' before De Jesus tried for the go-ahead marker for John Jay in the 65', but the Hawks keeper denied him. De Jesus had one final attempt for the go-ahead score in the 78', but Tsigalnitsky was there for the stop.

Hunter's last rally came in the 82' as Irving created space and tried to blast one past Rossilevin, but the sophomore keeper kept it away, preserving the draw.

The Bloodhounds will finish out the week by traveling to Lehman on Saturday, October 4, with kickoff set for noon.
