Women's Soccer Earns Second Consecutive Draw At Centenary On Wednesday Afternoon

Hackettstown, NJ - For the second straight match, the John Jay women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw, this time on the road at Centenary on Wednesday afternoon. The draw marked the third of the season for John Jay (4-2-3) while the Cyclones move to 3-4-2 on the season.

Four minutes into the contest, the Cyclones tested the Bloodhounds' goalkeeper, Anina Gut, as Lilian Flores sent a shot that Gut denied. The visitors controlled the tempo, creating three chances as Katy Shurson and Lililith Eaton sent shots that misfired. Eaton came close to notching the first goal of the game as her attempt sailed left of the target.

John Jay cracked through in the 18' as Natalie Mack registered her third goal of the season after Shurson setup the pass that led to her first assist of the season. On their next possession, Centenary nearly tied the match at 1-1 as Alissandra Auletta sent a chance, but Gut was there for the stop. In the 26th, Eaton had another opportunity to add to the Bloodhounds' lead, but Emma Ferfecki was there for the save.

With ten minutes to go before halftime, Anna Wehr booted a chance that hit the left woodwork before Sofia Soler sent one that sailed over the goal. John Jay continued to apply pressure until the first half horn as Wehr, Daniela Vazquez, and Eaton each created chances, but Ferfecki was in the right place to deny the shot.

The Bloodhounds outshot the Cyclones, 12-2, in the opening 45 minutes with five shots going on target.

As play commenced for the second half, the Bloodhounds continued the momentum from the first half, as Tallulah Nemet-Sargent fired a shot that was stopped by Ferfecki three minutes in.

John Jay continued to create opportunities, as in the 53', Eaton's chance hit the crossbar before Soler sent a low-lining attempt that Ferfecki was able to get to. Jerlynn Castillo tried to add to John Jay's total, but Ferfecki was there for the save in the 59'. Centenary broke through in the 65' against Gut as Auletta put one past her off the feed from Lesly Carillo-Garcia to tie the match at 1-1.

The Cyclones nearly took the lead on three chances as Gut was able to stand her ground and make the save.
Mack nearly got her second tally of the contest in the 81', but Ferfecki came out for the stop. In the final two minutes of the match, Castillo rocketed a left-footed chance that Ferfecki kept out before Soler booted the final shot of the game that was also denied for the 1-1 draw.

The Bloodhounds, for the match, outshot the Cyclones, 32-6, while holding a 15-6 advantage on shots on target.

John Jay concludes the non-conference portion of its schedule on Wednesday, October 8, as they travel to Paxton, MA, to take on Anna Maria College.

Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
