Men's Soccer Upends Medgar Evers, 8-0, To Conclude Regular Season On Senior Day

New York, NY - The John Jay men's soccer team concluded the 2025 regular season with an 8-0 home triumph over Medgar Evers on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bloodhounds finish the regular season with a 5-10-1 overall record while finishing 4-2-1 in league play. The Cougars end the year at 1-11-1 and 0-5 in conference matches.

Before the start of the match, the men's soccer team recognized its six seniors - Brian Cuatianquiz, Joshua Henao-Moreno, Ian Hartigan, Jose Martinez, John Gahuancela, and Josh Brayan.

John Jay struck early and often. Two minutes into the match, Sekou Sheriff blasted a shot from approximately 30 yards out on the left side to put the Bloodhounds ahead 1-0 after receiving the pass from Brayan.

Three minutes later, Henao-Moreno netted the first of his three goals. Charlie Metz sent a pass to Sheriff, and Henao-Moreno finished off the right side as the Bloodhound went ahead 2-0.

The Bloodhounds continued to demonstrate their offensive prowess when, in the 27th minute, Eden Chaftzadi netted his fifth goal of the season following assists from Hartigan and Aaron Cedillo.

A minute later, Hartigan was able to push one past the Medgar goalkeeper as the Bloodhounds went ahead 4-0.

Henao-Moreno added two more scores in the 33' and 43' minutes to complete the hat-trick in the first half, pushing the lead to 6-0.

In the second half, tri-captain John Gahaunacela netted his goal of the season on Senior Day, finishing the chance by the net after being set up by Kristian Hernandez and Karl Menuau.

With time winding down, Hartigan scored his second goal of the contest after being set up by Josh Clemas.

The Bloodhounds will be the No. 3 seed in the upcoming CUNYAC Men's Soccer championship and will host the No. 6 seed, CCNY, on October 29.

The time and location of the contest will be announced.
