Rifle Opens 2025-26 Campaign With Two Conference Victories Over Coast Guard; Finishes Fourth Against VMI/Wofford

Centreville, VA - The John Jay rifle team opened the 2025-26 season in Centreville, VA, at the Sills Range against VMI Mixed Team, VMI Women, and Wofford University. Additionally, the Bloodhounds opened up MAC Rifle play with a postal match against the Coast Guard.

Against the two Virginia-based schools, John Jay finished fourth overall with a total score of 4374. The Bloodhounds fell to VMI 4596-4374 and Wofford, 4553-4374.

Using the total aggregate score, the Bloodhounds earned two wins against Coast Guard, besting the Bears, 2089-1851 in small bore and 2285-1929 in air rifle.

In small bore, the Bloodhounds were led by Danny Canning with an impressive 551. Next up was freshman Cassidy Derosia, who in her first small bore match fired a 537. Rounding out the small bore scores were JB Zhao at 509, Bryan Gomez at 492, and Marian Kopram, competing in her first match for the Bloodhounds, with a 434.

In air rifle, newcomer Mahek Dalwala shot a 582 while Derosia posted a score of 577. Canning finished at 574, and Zhao rounded out the shooting at 552.

Other notable scores include Elaine Yue, who started for the first time in her Bloodhound tenure, finishing at 542. Rahat Mujammil posted a score of 546 while Allana Dan finished at 544.

With her impressive performance in her first collegiate outing, Dalwala was named Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference Air Rifle Athlete of the Week.
