Men's Soccer Edged By Brooklyn, 2-1, In Hard-Fought Conference Tilt On Wednesday Afternoon

New York, NY - The John Jay men's soccer team got off to a kick start in their CUNYAC matchup with the visiting Brooklyn College Bulldogs, but the Bulldogs netted a first-half tying goal and broke the stalemate in the second half as the Bloodhounds were edged 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon.

With the decision, the Bloodhounds fall to 2-9-1 overall and 1-1-1 in league play while the Bulldogs improve to 7-4-1 and 2-0-1 in league contests.

The Bloodhounds controlled the opening tempo, as two minutes into the contest, Helmer Herrera rocketed a chance that went right of the goal.

In the seventh minute, tri-captain Josh Clemas booted a chance that found the waiting arms of Brooklyn's Wilson Munoz.
Reigning CUNYAC Player of the Week, Eden Chaftzadi, tried a chance that Munoz also denied.

John Jay struck first before the 12-minute mark when Herrera found the back of the net, giving the Bloodhounds an early 1-0 lead on his first collegiate goal. Brooklyn answered back in the 21st via Emir Imamberdiev, who connected from point-blank range to level the match.

The Bloodhounds outshot the visitors, 7-5, in the opening 45 minutes, with Brooklyn making two saves in the opening half.

The Bloodhounds opened the second half with a pair of chances, but those were called back due to being offside.

In the 53rd minute, Andrew Gavrilov broke the tie on a finish assisted by Nikala Metreveli and Adam Moharam at the net, giving the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead.

The visitors looked for more, but Davio Rossilevin was there for the stop, keeping it a one-score match. In the 64', Sekou Sheriff launched a chance but Munoz was there for the stop. Following a shot attempt by Metreveli, Gavrilov tried to put one past Rossilevin, who was up to the task and kept Brooklyn from increasing its lead.

In the 72nd, Clemas fired a chance from the right side that Munoz turned aside. On the next Bloodhound possession, Sekou sent a chance from beyond the box that found its way to Munoz.

With five minutes remaining in the contest, Clemas sent a shot from the right side that Munoz stepped up and made the save. John Jay's Jason Ayala had a final chance along the left side, but Munoz thwarted his chance as Brooklyn held on for the win.

The Bloodhounds outshot the Bulldogs, 19-12 and 8-6 on shots on target. Munoz finished the game with seven saves while Rossilevin was credited with four stops.

John Jay closes out the week with a home tilt against Baruch on Saturday, October 11, from Randall's Island - Field 70.
