Women's Basketball Falls To William Paterson On Homecoming

New York, NY - The John Jay women's basketball team dropped an 83-61 decision on Homecoming to the visiting William Paterson University Pioneers on Friday evening.

Michaela Lattimore recorded her third straight double-double as the junior forward finished with a team-high 14 points on 5 of 11 shooting to go along with 11 rebounds in 24 minutes of play. Briana Minick added 13 points on 5 of 11 shooting in 19 minutes while recording three steals. Newcomer Miah Crockett finished with a career-best 11 points.

William Paterson had five players score in double digits, led by Patty Walsh, who netted a game-high 21 points on 9 of 15 shooting in 25 minutes. Jada Jacobs chipped in 18 points, seven rebounds, six assists, seven steals, and a block. 
Renee Wells, Megan Sears, and Leilani Pinder all had 11 points, with Sears notching a double-double and finishing with ten rebounds.

The visitors scored four quick points before Bryan Bascones knocked in a baseline jumper off the feed from Natalie Simonds. Both teams traded baskets to make it 8-8 after Alexis Jones hit a running, floating jumper in the paint. William Paterson closed out the first quarter on a 12-2 run as Jacobs hit on the layup with under a minute to go.

Crockett opened the second quarter with a layup off the pass from Kailani Galan, but WPU responded with a 9-0 capped by a Walsh hook shot in the paint, making it 29-12. The Pioneers increased its lead to 44-21 thanks to a 15-6 burst as they held John Jay to just a 1 of 6 shooting display over the next 4:14. The Bloodhounds closed out the quarter on an 8-2 run as Minick and Simonds combined for six of the eight points.

The Pioneers outscored John Jay, 27-15, in the third quarter to extend their lead to 73-44. The Bloodhounds held the Pioneers to just 23.5 shooting in the fourth quarter (4 of 17) while connecting on 40.0 percent from the floor as Crockett led the charge with seven points.

For the game, the Bloodhounds shot 36.7 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Pioneers, 44-41.

John Jay will gear up for a short 20-minute commute via 11th Avenue to the Jon A Paulson Center to take on the No. 1-ranked, back-to-back national champions, NYU.
