Women's Volleyball Closes Out 2025 Regular Season With Two Wins At Mount Saint Mary Tri-Match

Newburgh, NY - Fresh of capturing the program's first outright CUNYAC Regular Season title, the John Jay women's volleyball team closed out the 2025 regular season with a pair of victories at the Mount Saint Mary Tri-Match, blanking New Jersey City University, 3-0 (25-18; 25-22; 25-10) and besting the host Knights, 3-1 (25-20; 20-25; 25-22; 25-18).

The Bloodhounds finish the regular season with a 21-6 overall record, while NJCU falls to 15-9 and Mount Saint Mary drops to 11-16.

In the opening match of Saturday's tri-match, the Bloodhounds bested the Gothic Knights 3-0.
Sophomore Jadyn Orava registered a match-high 20 kills while hitting .326. She added four digs for 20.5 points. Madison Mullan added six kills, four aces, and six digs. Adrienne Xiao had three kills, 28 assists, an ace, and five digs in the win. Hailey Waugaman led the Bloodhounds with 12 digs.

Kai Fitzpatrick paced NJCU with 11 kills and seven digs. Genesis Hibbard registered 11 digs while Rae Marrero had 20 assists and eight digs.

John Jay jumped out to a 6-0 lead before extending the lead to 8-1 on a bad set. The Bloodhounds cruised to an 18-9 advantage before NJCU chipped into the lead on an 8-3 run, closing the gap to 21-17. John Jay closed out the first set with a 4-1 burst to take the first set.

The Bloodhounds carried that momentum into the second set, opening the set with a 7-3 lead on a kill from Orava. NJCU used a 6-2 burst to tie the set at 9-9 before John Jay answered back with six straight points to build a 15-9 advantage. The Gothic Knights fought back on the strength of an 8-2 run, closing the deficit to 19-18. The two teams traded points before Mullan posted two of the final three kills of the set to clinch the set.


In the third set, the two teams exchanged points, with Diane Pugay registering two straight kills for NJCU to tie the set at 7-7. John Jay responded with a 17-2 run, as Mullan served up three aces with Theresa Schmitt also adding an ace. A kill from Marrero kept NJCU in the set, but Orava sent an emphatic kill to win the match for John Jay.


The Bloodhounds hit .275 as a team, recording 36 kills and producing 47 digs in the match.


John Jay 3, Mount Saint Mary 1

The Bloodhounds carried the momentum from match one to the game against the host Knights. After taking the first set, 25-20, Mount Saint Mary evened the set before the Bloodhounds closed the match out with a 25-22, 25-18 win.

After posting 20 kills in the first match, Orava set a new career-high, finishing with 30 kills and hitting .587 while producing a double-double, ending with 11 digs for 30.0 points. Xiao registered two kills, 28 assists, eight aces, and seven digs for 10.5 points. Mullan added seven kills. Lizbeth Martinez and Hailey Waugaman each finished with double-digit digs, as Martinez finished with 16 and Waugaman with 12.


Mount's Juliana Simone had a double-double, finishing with a team-high 15 kills and 13 digs, while Jonaiya Williams had 11 kills. Erin Lema posted 11 digs while Vanessa Seymour and Sofia Fredericks had double-digit assists, 12 and 18, respectively.

Mount Saint Mary went up 2-1 before the Bloodhounds erupted on a 9-0 run as Orava produced three kills, while Alex Overkamp and Nina Bongiovanni had kills during the run. Xiao served up two aces to give John Jay a 10-2 lead. The Knights climbed back in the set, trailing 19-15 following three aces from Williams and a kill from Ava DiScala. John Jay closed the set with two straight kills from Orava.

In the second set, the two teams traded points to a 5-5 score before a 6-2 run gave MSMC a 11-7 lead. The Bloodhounds responded with a 5-0 run to go ahead 12-11, but the Knights closed the set on a 12-4 run, highlighted by a Williams kill. 


John Jay opened the third set leading 9-2 as Xiao had three aces to highlight the run. Mount Saint Mary narrowed the gap, scoring six straight points to get to within one, 9-8. The Bloodhounds built a 17-12 lead before the Knights rallied to trail by two, 17-15, after an ace from Fredericks. Mount Saint Mary's trailed 24-22 after a kill from Williams, but Martinez clinched the set with a kill.

The Bloodhounds went ahead 8-2 after Xiao had three aces. Mount Saint Mary's got back in the set with four straight points, capped by a Williams kill from Fredericks. The two teams traded points before the Bloodhounds had four consecutive kills from Orava, extending the lead to 18-14. An ace from Bongiovanni pushed the lead to 22-17 before Orava closed the match with her 29th and 30th kills of the game, sealing the win for the Bloodhounds.

John Jay had 51 kills for the match while producing 65 digs and hitting .252 for the game, while limiting Mount Saint Mary to just .147.


The Bloodhounds will await the winner of the No. 4/No. 5 matchup between Hunter and CCNY on Thursday, November 13.
