Bloodhounds Push Manhattanville To Double Overtime Before Falling At Home, 90-86

New York, NY - The John Jay men's basketball team trailed by 19 points at the 12:27 mark of the second before the Bloodhounds outscored the visiting Manhattanville University Valiants, 35-16, down the stretch to force the game into overtime.

Five additional minutes couldn't settle the score as both teams headed for a second overtime, where the Valiants took control, outscoring the Bloodhounds, 15-8, to take an 87-80 lead. John Jay kept fighting back but ultimately fell, 90-86, on Tuesday evening.

John Jay falls to 2-7 on the season while the Valiants move to 5-5. Tonight marked the first game that John Jay alum, Romello Ford, coached against his alma mater, as Ford is currently the acting head coach of the Valiants. 

Four Bloodhounds finished in double figures, led by Keyshawn Miller, who logged a career-high 50 minutes while netting a game and career-best 30 points, on 10 of 20 shooting while pulling down 11 rebounds, dishing out six assists, recording five steals, and two blocks. Ronnie McIntyre went for 23 points on 8 of 21 shooting while hitting 4 of 10 from the outside, grabbing eight rebounds in 46 minutes.

Adrian Kopec matched Miller, playing a career-best 50 minutes while going for 15 points on 5 of 11 shooting, which included a 3 of 6 display from the outside. Amare Jordan was the fourth Bloodhound to score in double-digits, finishing with ten points, while corralling six rebounds in 32 minutes. 

Andrew Saint-Louis and Chris Robinson each had 22 points on a combined 19 of 43 shooting from the field. Saint-Louis had eight rebounds while Robinson dished out a team-high seven assists. John Ranaghan dialed in 19 points on 8 of 13 shooting from the field while hitting on 3 of 6 from the outside. Carlos Urena added 14 points.

Both teams struggled in the early part of the first half before Manhattanville doubled up the lead, 14-7, on a stepback jumper from Ranaghan. The visitors staged a 10-3 run over the next five minutes in taking a 24-10 lead. Miller stopped the run with a layup as John Jay closed out the first half, scoring nine of the final 14 points, but trailed 29-19 at the break.The Valiants opened the second half on a 15-7 run, capped by a driving layup from Ranaghan as Manhattanville led 44-26.

John Jay seized the momentum, building a 31-13 run over the next 10:35, in which the Bloodhounds hit on 11 of 17 from the field and 4 of 4 from three, with McIntyre scoring 15 points during the run as the game was tied at 57.

The Bloodhounds held the Valiants to just 5 of 15 shooting during this span. Saint-Louis hit a driving layup with 40 seconds to go, but subsequently fouled Miller, who tied the game from the line with 23 seconds.

In the first overtime, the visitors got on the board first with a Ranaghan layup. The two teams continued to trade points before the Bloodhounds took the lead on a Kopec driving layup and followed with a made free-throw to put John Jay up three with 1:55 to go in the first overtime. McIntyre made one of two from the stripe, and Saint-Louis came down the other for Manhattanville, banking in the layup as time expired.

The visitors jumped out to a 76-72 lead in the second overtime before Alsseny Diallo made one of two from the line. John Jay narrowed the gap to five, 85-80, on a Miller jumper, his 27th point of the contest. Manhattanville hit four straight free throws to go up 89-80 with 15 seconds.

The Bloodhounds didn't quit as Jordan rattled in a three-pointer off the feed from Jamir Stewart as John Jay trailed 89-83. Robinson made one of two from the line before Miller closed the game with three made free throws for his 30th point.

For the game, both teams shot over 40.0 percent from the floor, with John Jay hitting 34.5 percent from the outside. The Bloodhounds held a 51-46 edge on the boards while both teams hit on 66.7 percent from the line (16 of 24).

John Jay will resume CUNYAC play on Thursday as they head to York College at 7:00 p.m.
