Men's Volleyball Splits At Bard Tri-Match On Saturday

Annadale-on-Hudson, NY - The John Jay men's volleyball competed in their third tri-match of the season, as the Bloodhounds defeated the University of Mount Saint Vincent, 3-1 (25-22; 25-15; 24-26; 25-12) before falling to the host, Bard, 3-1 (22-25; 27-25; 16-25; 17-25).

The Bloodhounds extended their win streak to five straight after picking up a 3-1 triumph over the Dolphins. Logan Ramos led the way for John Jay, recording 12 kills and 10 digs while serving five aces. Nick Fuentes added ten kills and seven digs. Daniel Gonzalez Verdejo recorded 16 assists, while Maxwell Law had 12 assists. 

Tyler Hanna led the way for the Dolphins with six kills and two blocks. Olatomiwa Ibitayo finished with a team-high seven kills and one dig. Carlos Martinez paced UMSV with 11 digs, while Matthew Barrancos finished with 22 assists.

The two started the first set trading points before the Bloodhounds rattled off five straight to take an 11-5 lead following a kill from Law. John Jay went ahead, 21-15, following a kill from Ramos. The Dolphins responded with a 5-2 run to get to within 23-20 before Omar Alaoui notched the kill for the first win of the match. 

The Bloodhounds raced out to a 10-1 lead in the second set before the Dolphins strung three straight points. John Jay staged an 8-5 run to go up 18-9 following another kill from Ramos. UMSV answered with a 5-2 spurt to cut the deficit to 20-14. John Jay finished the set on a 5-1 run as Adam Bainey and Law combined for the block. 

The Dolphins erased a 17-13 deficit in the third set with a 13-7 run, as four straight attack errors gave UMSV their first win. John Jay responded with their highest hitting percentage of the match, finishing at .538. The Bloodhounds jumped to an 11-6 lead following another kill by Ramos. John Jay closed the match on a 12-3 run for their seventh victory.

In the day's second match, the Bloodhounds were pitted against the hosts. John Jay dropped the first set before edging out Bard, 27-25, in the second. The Bloodhounds couldn't mount a comeback in the third and fourth sets as they dropped both to the hosts. 

Ramos finished with a team-high 13 kills and five digs. Fuentes had 10 kills and seven digs. Bainey had the lone ace for the Bloodhounds, while Law finished with 17 assists. Gonzalez Verdejo added 13 in the three sets he played. 

Sidney Stein led Bard with 19 kills, seven digs, and four aces. Ansel Waisler added 12 kills, a team-leading six aces, and 10 digs. Lincoln Grisso also had a double-double, finishing with 11 kills and 15 digs. Pearse Esposito registered 38 assists and 10 digs. Quinn Lewis also had 10 digs in the win for Bard.

John Jay jumped to a 7-4 lead in the first set. The visitors continued to add to their advantage, going ahead 16-11 following a kill from Fuentes. The Raptors regained their momentum, finishing the set on a 14-6 run, as Bard took a 1-0 lead in the match. 

The Bloodhounds opened a 10-6 lead in the second set as Ramos produced his third straight kill. The Raptors answered with a 6-1 run to take a 12-11 lead. John Jay outscored Bard, 9-7, with Bainey producing a kill that gave the visitors a 20-19 lead.

The two teams traded points before Fuentes recorded a kill that gave the visitors a set point. Stein responded with a kill that tied the set at 25-25. The Bloodhounds rallied to take the set off an attack error by Esposito. The Bloodhounds hit .361 in the set with only three attack errors to Bard's six errors and their .114 hitting percentage.

Bard held a 6-3 lead in the third set before the visitors closed the gap to 6-5. The Bloodhounds narrow the lead to 12-10 lead after a kill from Attila Nerette. Bard finished the set outscoring the Bloodhounds, 13-6, as Wasisler recorded the kill for the set winner. 

In the fourth set, the Bloodhounds jumped to a 6-3 lead following a kill from Bainey. Bard ignited a 13-4 run as Waisler notched the kill, giving the Raptors a 16-10 lead and forcing John Jay to call a timeout. 

The Bloodhounds faced a ten-point deficit, 24-14, after Alex Bridgelall registered the kill. John Jay got to within seven before a service error concluded the match.

John Jay returns to the court on February 18, as they travel to Purchase for a 7:00 p.m. first-serve.
