Men's Volleyball Off To Best Start In Program History Following Home Triumph Over CCNY

New York, NY - The John Jay men's volleyball team is off to the program's best start since the inception of the program, as the Bloodhounds defeated the visiting CCNY Beavers, 3-0 (25-8; 25-13; 25-16) at The Doghouse on Thursday evening.

John Jay moves to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in CUNYAC play. CCNY drops to 1-7 on the year and 0-1 in league play.

The Bloodhounds were paced by Micah Rossman, who hit a robust .571 in finishing with 10 kills, an ace, and five digs. Newcomer Omar Alaoui registered eight kills, two aces, and three digs. Evan Wandersee matched Rossman with a team-high five digs.

Senior setter/opposite Alex Bridgelall finished with a team-high 22 assists, two aces, three digs, and a solo block. The Queens, NY native reached a milestone in the contest, recording his 1,000th career assist, and now stands at 1,017.




Reng Chen led the way for the Beavers with five kills and two digs. Alex Ma led the team with ten digs. Kryrlo Vysotskyy concluded the match with 10 assists. 


The two teams exchanged points in the opening set before Alaoui registered a kill that broke a 4-4 tie. From that point, John Jay rattled off a 19-3 run, capped by an Alaoui ace that made it 23-7. Rossman added a kill before serving up a set-winning ace. 

The Bloodhounds hit .455 in the opening set, committing just one attack error while posting 11 kills and four aces. 

Similar to the first set, the two exchanged points, with Nick Fuentes recording a kill. John Jay staged a 16-6 run, upping their lead to 20-10, with Rossman recording five kills and Fuentes three, including the kill that doubled up the lead.

CCNY's Brandon Green recorded the kill from Vysotskyy, which kept them in the set before a service error gave the point, and the Bloodhounds had a 2-0 lead.

John Jay upped their hitting percentage, converting at a .520 clip and recording 16 kills.

In the third set, CCNY jumped out to a 4-1 lead before the Bloodhounds answered with three straight points as Steven Ajazi and Joshua Acevedo recorded the block that tied the set at 4-4.

The Bloodhounds continued their offensive prowess, using a 13-7 burst to lead 17-11 following a kill from Acevedo. Following a bad set, the Beavers got to within three, 17-14. Three straight kills by John Jay increased the lead to 20-14, as Alaoui notched the kill from Jimmy Thinlay. 

The Bloodhounds finished the set with a 5-2 run, starting with an ace by Maxwell Law and ending with a service error by Chen.

The Bloodhounds hit .380 for the match with nine aces and 38 kills. The Beavers hit -.109 while recording 20 digs.

John Jay travels to Madison, NJ, this weekend, February 22, as they will take on the host, Drew, at 11:00 a.m. before squaring off against Cairn at 1:00 p.m.
