Softball Sweeps Doubleheader At Cedar Crest On Saturday

Allentown, PA - The John Jay softball team continues their winning ways, as the Bloodhounds defeated the Cedar Crest Falcons, 8-2 and 9-3. 

With the victories, the Bloodhounds move to 5-1 on the season while the Falcons falter to 2-10.

Game 1 | John Jay 8, Cedar Crest 2

The Bloodhounds notched seven runs over the first two innings, posting an 8-2 win. Elika Rodrigues had three hits, while Kendal Bryant and Sidney Bankston each had two hits. Bryant drove in five RBIs in the victory. Natalie Graham posted her third complete game of the year, giving up two runs on six hits while walking five and striking out nine batters. 

Madison Nadasi, Kate Gronkowski, Natalie Hasert, Kylie Mastillo, Alexis Kline and Brooke Trentler each had a hit. Emily Christopher and Laney Ferraro drove in an RBI. Erin Gray lost after giving up eight runs (six earned) on ten hits. 

Rodrigues reached on a single to left in the first inning before swiping second. Rylea Sandel walked before moving into scoring position. Bryant ripped a double to left for the game's first runs. Alyssa Cadolino walked before Olivia Paoli reached first on a fielding error to load the bases. 

Bankston singled through the right side, scoring Bryant as John Jay went up 3-0. Genon Thomas drew a bases-loaded walk, increasing the lead to 4-0.

Nadasi led off the frame with a single before moving to second on a throwing error by the third baseman. Mastillo was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a steal. Kline walked to load the bases. Christopher drew a walk to bring in Cedar Crest's first run. 

John Jay tacked on three more runs in the top of the seventh off Bryant's first home run as a Bloodhound. 

The game remained that way until the top of the sixth when Cadolino singled home Rodrigues, who doubled to lead off the frame. 

Laney Ferraro sent a sacrifice fly to center for the Falcons' second run before Graham got the game-ending grounder.

The Bloodhounds carried momentum from game one, as they opened game two with three runs. Cedar Crest chipped into the deficit, trailing 4-3 before the Bloodhounds added five runs over the final three innings in picking up the 9-3 victory.

Lindsay Ogden completed her third complete game of the season, moving to 2-1 on the season while giving up three runs on six hits while walking one and striking out 11 batters. Sandel had two hits and drove in three RBI. Paoli finished with three hits and an RBI. Angelina Schoelles added two RBIs, while Kelly Fajardo had two hits.

Gronkowski and Hasert had two hits, with Hasert driving in two RBIs. 

Gallaspy led off with a single up the middle before stealing second. A walk to Rodrigues gave the Bloodhounds runners on first and second before Sandel singled up the middle, scoring Gallaspy. The next batter, Bryant, added an RBI grounder to second that plated Rodrigues. Cadolino doubled to right field, plating home Sandel, giving the Bloodhounds a 3-0 lead. 

Cedar Crest got on the board with a Hasert triple to center field in the bottom of the first. 

In the top of the second, Fajardo singled to right center and promptly stole second. Gallaspy flew out to right and moved Fajardo to third before she came in to score on a wild pitch, making it 4-1.

Cedar Crest grew closer in the bottom of the third as Hasert doubled to left, scoring Gronkowski, and then Kline added an RBI single to center field, trimming the deficit to one, 4-3.

John Jay added a run in the top of the fifth as Paoli found room through the left side, scoring Sandel, who reached on a throwing error.

Sandel continued her strong offensive day as she doubled to center, bringing in a pair of runs as the lead swelled to 7-3.

In the top of the seventh, Schoelles had the big hit, singling through the right side, plating home two runners as the Bloodhounds went ahead 9-3.

Ogden completed her masterful day inside the circle by striking out the final two batters to preserve the win.

John Jay continues their road trip on Tuesday, March 18, as they head to New Jersey City University.
