Softball One-Hits Sarah Lawrence In Both Games Of Twinbill On Thursday

Bronxville, NY - The John Jay softball team allowed one hit across both games of Thursday's doubleheader at Sarah Lawrence, defeating the Gryphons, 19-0 and 8-0 in five innings.

The Bloodhounds, winners of eight straight, move to 9-1 on the season, while the Gryphons falter to 0-8.

The Bloodhounds erupted for 11 runs in the top of the second and yielded just one hit en route to a 19-0 victory in five innings. Kiki Iglesias earned her first win of the season, walking one batter and striking out seven. 

Three Bloodhounds produced multi-hits, led by Rylea Sandel, who went 3 for 5 with 4 RBI. Alyssa Cadolino and Angelina Schoelles had two hits. 

Five players, in addition to Sandel, had multi-RBIs. Maleea Gallaspy matched Sandel with four, while Elika Rodrigues, Schoelles, and Oliva Lopez had two RBI.

Cadolino opened the scoring with an RBI, two-out double to left centerfield in the top of the first. In the top of the second, the Bloodhounds nearly batted around twice in the frame, sending 17 batters to the plate where they scored 11 times in building a 12-0. 

Iglesias led off the second with a walk while Schoelles singled. Rodrigues drove in a pair that made it 3-0 before Gallaspy clubbed a three-run home run to left center, making it 6-0. Iglesias' second at-bat in the frame, she reached on an error that scored Kendal Bryant. Schoelles walked and brought in Cadolino as the lead increased to 8-0.

Kelly Fajardo and Gallaspy each drew walks with the bases loaded to plate two more runs before Sandel doubled down the left-field line as John Jay led 12-0. Schoelles continued her strong afternoon, doubling to right field and scoring Sidney Bankston as John Jay increased their lead to 13-0. 

Samantha Santana recorded her first career hit and RBI, singling to left that brought in Schoelles, making it 14-0.
Sandel plated across two more runs on a single to right field, pushing the lead to 16-0. Jordyn Prince got her first hit of the season, an RBI infield single to short, as John Jay led 17-0. 

Shirin Pechefsky got Sarah Lawrence's only hit in the bottom of the fourth but was stranded after Iglesias retired the next two batters. Lopez delivered the final two runs of the contest, sending an RBI single up the middle.

The Bloodhounds continued their hot-hitting approach in the second game, as they posted an 8-0 triumph in five innings.

Natalie Graham picked up her fifth win of the season and fifth complete game, giving up one hit while walking two and striking out eight batters. Olivia Paoli went 3 for 3 while scoring two runs and driving in two RBIs. Gallaspy and Sandel also drove in two RBIs. 

Kyra Johnsen had the lone hit for the Gryphons in the second game. Pechefsky lost after giving up eight runs (six earned) on nine hits while walking four and striking out two.

Following a scoreless first inning, John Jay sparked a four-run second inning. Paoli singled and moved to second on a fielding error by the right fielder. Bankston doubled to right center, bringing in Paoli. Three straight to Schoelles, Fajardo, and Rodrigues plated home the second run of the inning. 

Gallaspy reached on an error by the left fielder, scoring Schoelles. Sandel then lofted a sacrifice fly to center that scored Fajardo making it 4-0. 

Natalie Graham singled and moved to second on a fielding error by the centerfield before coming into score on Paoli's two-run home run to left. Rodrigues led off with a single to center field in the top of the fourth and promptly stole second. 

Gallaspy tripled to right field, scoring Rodrigues. Sandel sent a grounder to short, allowing Gallaspy to cross the plate, upping the lead to 8-0. 

Graham retired the side in order in the bottom of the fifth as the Bloodhounds picked up their ninth win.

John Jay will continue their road trip as they will take on the University of Mount Saint Vincent on Sunday, March 23, in Purchase, NY, on the campus of Manhattanville University.

First pitch is set for noon.
