New Rochelle, NY - The John Jay baseball team resumed CUNYAC play on Thursday afternoon against the Baruch College Bearcats, earning a 4-3 come-from-behind triumph in game one before posting a 9-0 win in the second game.

The Bloodhounds move to 11-10 overall and 4-0 in league play, while the Bearcats falter to 3-17 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

Game 1 | John Jay 4, Baruch 3

Both teams put up zeroes over the first three innings of play before Baruch scored twice in the bottom of the fourth.
John Jay answered back with a run in their half of the fifth, while the Bearcats added a run in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs in the final inning, John Jay pushed across two runs to edge out the Bearcats, 4-3, in the opener.

Sean Jost (3-0) earned his second complete-game win of the season, allowing three runs (one earned) on one hit despite walking six batters and striking out four.

The Bloodhounds' two through five hitters of Ryan Cherichella, Santo Anzalone, Sebastian Sanchez, and Hayden Tackett went a combined 4 for 10, with Cherichella driving in two RBIs and Sanchez and Tackett adding an RBI.
Axel Kappes III and Alvy Grullon also added a hit and scored a run each in the game one winner.

Baruch's Joseph Bello had the lone hit and produced an RBI in the contest. Matthew Rappa was credited with the second RBI. John Kim (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season.

Both pitchers traded zeroes over the first three innings of play. In the top half of the third, Grullon got the first hit of the contest as he tripled to right field but was stranded.

In the bottom of the inning, Bello led off the frame for Baruch with a double to right field before Jost settled back in, retiring the next three batters.

John Jay had a chance for the game's first run in the top of the fourth. With one out, Anzalone doubled to left field. Sanchez walked, giving the Bloodhounds runners on first and second. Tackett struck out before Ethan Simaan grounded out to short as Sanchez was forced out on the play.

The Bearcats pushed across the game's first runs in the bottom of the fourth. Peter Marino walked to start things off. He found his way to third after stealing second and a failed pickoff attempt by Jost. Back-to-back walks loaded the bases for DeRose, who reached first on a fielding error by Tackett as Marino crossed the plate. Bello lofted a fly-ball to left field as Luciano tagged up and came in to score, giving Baruch a 2-0 advantage.

John Jay answered back in the top of the fifth. With two outs, Grullon reached first on a fielding error by DeRose at second. A walk to Jaxen Gangwish gave the visitors a pair of runners as Cherichella sent a single to center field, scoring Grullon. Anzalone connected on a deep fly to center, but Marino was there to make the play for the final out of the inning.

Baruch added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth. Cocozza walked and moved up with a steal of second base. Luciano grounded out to first, which Cocozza advanced 90 feet. The next batter, Rappa, sent a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Cocozza.

Kappes III commenced John Jay's seventh inning with an infield single to short. Grullon advanced him over to second on the sacrifice bunt. Kappes III found his way to third on a wild pitch. Gangwish was hit by a pitch, as the Bloodhounds had runners on the corners with just one out. Cherichella collected his second RBI of the day, sending a grounder to second as Kappes III scored on the play and Gangwish moved to second.

Baruch's best chance for a run came in the bottom of the third. Longarzo and Marino each singled before Cocozza walked. Nicholas Morabito pinch-hit, but Kappes III struck him out, ending the threat.

The Bloodhounds added two more in the top of the fourth as Grullon tripled in Agosta before scoring on the Hordodyski RBI single, which made it 4-0 in favor of John Jay. The scoring continued in the top of the sixth as John Jay upped its lead to 6-0. Grullon started with a walk and moved to third after Hordodyski reached on the fielder's choice. Grullon scored on a wild pitch as Hordodyski moved to third on the play. Cherichella faced Forest and drove a deep fly to right that allowed Hordodyski to score.

Kappes III faced a little trouble in the bottom of the sixth. Cocozza singled to left with one out before moving to second on a wild pitch. Christopher Petrillo walked, but Benedetto grounded out to Hordodyski, ending the inning.

The first pitch from Ohio Field on the campus of Bronx Community College is set for noon.
