Baseball Falls To #RV SUNY Cortland On Tuesday Afternoon

Cortland, NY - The John Jay baseball team made their first trip to Cortland, NY to square off against the #RV SUNY Cortland Dragons. 

Following weather alterations, the Bloodhounds and Dragons played one game after their original three-game series was truncated to a single game and was called in the bottom of the seventh due to lightning as John Jay fell by the score of 22-0.

With the loss, the Bloodhounds fall to 11-11 on the year while the Dragons move to 18-10. Ethan Simaan and James Hordodyski got a hit each for the visitors. Danny Opramolla (0-3) took the loss after giving up seven runs (two earned) on five hits while walking two and striking out one. John Jay used a total of four relief pitchers following Opramolla. John Jay was charged with six errors for the game.

Five Dragons produced multi-hit games, led by Danny Jackson, who recorded three hits. He, along with JJ DeLawder, Mitchell Kelly, and Nicholas Galuski, had three RBIs on the afternoon. Chris Bonacci and Luke Schartner scored four runs each for Cortland.

Dylan Beers earned the win for Cortland after tossing three no-hit innings with five strikeouts. Talon Elkins and Warren Miller each pitched a shutout inning while not allowing a hit and recording a strikeout.

Cortland scored three runs in the first and a combined 12 over the second, third and fourth frames. Following a scoreless fifth, the Dragons added three more in the bottom of the sixth and finished the game with four in the bottom of the seventh before a lightning delay concluded the contest.

The Bloodhounds resume CUNYAC play on Friday, April 18, with a doubleheader against Baruch at Jim Hynes '63 Baseball Stadium on the campus of Kean University.
