Men's Volleyball Falls In CUNYAC Semifinals To Top-Seeded Baruch

New York, NY - The John Jay men's volleyball team concluded their 2025 campaign in the CUNYAC semifinals in the ARC Arena against top-seeded Baruch in straight sets (12-25, 19-25, 21-25).

The Bloodhounds concluded the season with a 16-12 overall record while going 7-7 in conference play. The Bearcats will take on Hunter College in the CUNYAC championship on Friday at 6:00 p.m. 

Freshman Nick Fuentes led the way with nine kills, while fellow freshman Omar Alaoui added six. Senior Daniel Gonzalez Verdejo had ten assists in his Bloodhounds' finale, while Maxwell Law added seven coming off the bench. 

Argjend Osmanaj and Noah Pak led Baruch with 11 kills each. Ryan Oommen paced the Bearcats with 32 assists in the match. 

The Bloodhounds kept pace with Baruch early in the first set. With the score at 12-8, Baruch reeled off the next seven points to take a 19-8 lead. The Bloodhounds continued to battle but fell 25-12 in the first set.

John Jay trailed 6-2 in the second set after a kill by Ari Osmanaj. The Bloodhounds got to within two after a kill from Fuentes. The Bearcats used a 13-7 run to take a 22-14 lead. The visitors responded with a 5-1 run as Steven Ajazi and Alaoui combined for the block. Baruch got a kill from Pak while Zachary Yao and Argjend Osmanaj combined for the block to seal the second set.

John Jay held a 4-1 lead to start the third set following two attack errors by the Bearcats. Baruch erased that deficit with a 19-8 run, taking a 20-12 lead after a kill from Argjend Osmanaj. 

The Bloodhounds kept working, trimming the deficit to three, 24-21, on the strength of a 9-4 run, as Fuentes came up with another kill. Baruch's Argjend Osmanaj notched the match-winning kill from Ryan Oommen.
