Softball Drops Pair of Games Against Stevens; Kendal Bryant Drives in Two Runs

Union, NJ - The John Jay softball team lost a doubleheader to Stevens Tech on Tuesday afternoon on the campus of Kean University. John Jay lost game one, 7-0, and fell in game two, 7-4.

The Bloodhounds move to 16-8 overall, while the Ducks improve to 18-16 on the season.

Game 1 | John Jay 0, Stevens 7
In game one, the Ducks took an early lead on a pair of unearned runs in the top of the second. The visitors tacked on two and three runs in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively.

Sophomore Lindsay Ogden notched her 10th complete game, firing seven innings, and striking out for. Senior Maleea Gallaspy, and junior Kelly Fajardo and Sidney Bankston recorded a hit each.

Game 2 | John Jay 4, Stevens 7
In the second game, Stevens opened the scoring early with a run in the opening frame. Trailing 4-0 heading into the bottom of the second, sophomore Alyssa Cadolino doubled to left field. With two outs, junior Olivia Paoli walked and stole second to create second and third. Bankston followed to reach base on an error to plate Cadolino and Paoli to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Stevens responded right away with a pair of runs in the third to increase their lead back to four. However in the bottom of the frame, Gallaspy singled and advanced to second on a bunt single by junior Elika Rodrigues. With senior Rylea Sandel on second and Rodrigues at third, junior Kendal Bryant came through with a two-run single up the middle. After three full innings, the Ducks led 6-4.

Stevens added an insurance run in the fourth to go up by three. John Jay made a late comeback in the bottom of the seventh stranding two runners on base.

Rodrigues and Bryant both finished 2-for-4. Sandel reached base twice via a hit and walk. Sophomore Natalie Graham picked up her team-high 11th complete game after tossing seven innings.

The Bloodhounds resume CUNYAC play on Monday, April 21, against the Cardinals of York College.

First-pitch is at 3:00 pm at Padavan Preller Field in Bellerose, NY.
