Men's Soccer Edged By Late Goal In Season Opener At Mount Saint Vincent, 4-3, On Friday Evening

Riverdale, NY - The John Jay men's soccer team held a one-goal lead at halftime, but the host Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins netted three goals in the second half to defeat the Bloodhounds, 4-3, in the season opener for both teams.

John Jay struck first on a give-and-go between newcomers Sekou Sheriff and Josh Clemas as Clemas found the back of the net five minutes into the contest for his first goal as a Bloodhound.

Mount Saint Vincent found the tying score a minute later off the foot of William Sornin.

The match remained knotted at a goal apiece when Davio Rossilevin made the save on Javier Trujillo's attempt in the 20th minute.

The Bloodhounds broke the tie in the 26th minute as Alejandro De Jesus collected the rebound off his missed attempt, which gave John Jay a 2-1 lead. The visitors nearly had a third goal in the half when Ian Hartigan sent a shot to the bottom right, but Samuel Reine turned it aside.Rossilevin made two saves in a minute just before halftime that preserved the one-goal lead for the visitors.

In the second half, Trujillo spotted teammate Marti Senyer as Mount Saint Vincent tied the match at 2-2 in the 53rd minute. The Dolphins continued to apply pressure and were rewarded in the 58th minute as Sornin set up Manuel Vidal, putting the Dolphins ahead 3-2.

The Bloodhounds tried to find the tying goal as Reine stopped Andrew Provenzano's chances in the 70th minute.

With just seven minutes left in regulation, Sebastian Mesa sent a shot on target that Rossilevin denied, but Mesa tacked on an insurance score, putting the home team ahead, 4-2, with five minutes left to play.

On the ensuing Bloodhound possession, Clemas netted his second goal of the match, but the comeback attempt was thwarted as the Dolphins hung on for the 4-3 home triumph.

John Jay was outshot 25-8 while Rossilevin was credited with five saves on nine shots on target.
