Women's Soccer Drops First Match Of 2025 On The Road At Kean

Union, NJ - The John Jay women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, falling on the road at Kean University, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon.

The Bloodhounds, who entered the game on a four-match unbeaten streak and didn't surrender a goal, fall to 4-1 on the year while the Cougars move to 3-1-1 on the season.

Today's game was in memory of Kean's women's soccer assistant coach, Joe Colodne, who passed away unexpectedly in June. Those who wish to donate can do so by donating on their GoFundMe Page.

The Cougars netted two goals in a span of four minutes as Ella Petrosh sent a low, lining shot past John Jay's Anina Gut in the 18th minute.

Kean's Kiera Quinn received the pass from Stephanie Monroe and netted the Cougars' second goal of the match.

John Jay's first chance came in the 26th minute as Ava Lopez sent a chance, but it was sent off target. In the 37th minute, Lopez tried to get the Bloodhounds on the board, sending a bottom left shot that Madison Gesualdo stopped.

A minute into the second half, Kean tacked on a third goal off the foot of Emeral Neloms.

In the 79th minute, the Bloodhounds had two chances with attempts coming off the foot of Yamile Bastidas and Sofia Soler. The Cougars added their final goal of the match in the 86th minute with a goal from Allison Yiu.

The Bloodhounds tallied seven shots, three on goal, while Kean finished with 25 shots and ten on target.

Gut finished with six saves, four of which came in the first half. Gesualdo made one stop in the opening half before Caitlin Murphy started the second half, stopping two shots.

The Bloodhounds finish their three-match road trip on Saturday, September 20, as they travel to Media, PA, to take on Penn State Brandywine for a 2:00 p.m. start.
