Men's Soccer Blanked At NJCU On Monday Afternoon

Jersey City, NJ - The John Jay men's soccer team played to a first-half stalemate with the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights before the home team tallied two goals in twenty seconds and added a third at the 60-minute mark as the Bloodhounds dropped a 3-0 decision on Monday afternoon.

The Bloodhounds fall to 1-6 overall while the Gothic Knights move to 2-4-1 on the season.

NJCU started the match with an offsides call before the Bloodhounds came on the counter, as Alejandro De Jesus set up a shot that went high over the next two minutes into the contest. The Gothic Knights tested John Jay's sophomore keeper, Davio Rossilevin, in the 11th minute as Kenneth Valladares sent a shot on target that the John Jay keeper turned aside.

Seven minutes later, John Jay's Eden Haftzadi, making his first appearance as a Bloodhound, sent a shot that was misfired high over the net. A minute later, Haftzadi created space and sent a chance on goal, but was stopped by NJCU's Camilo Pascual Verdu.

Both teams exchanged chances, with both keepers standing their ground and keeping the match scoreless.

In the 38th minute, Maximillian Bzuikiewicz fired an attempt that Rossilevin was able to keep Provenzano fired a chance that ricocheted off the left woodwork. Rossilevin made three saves in the opening half to his counterparts, two, despite NJCU holding a slim 9-8 advantage in shot attempts in the first 45 minutes of the fixture.

Ten minutes into the second half, NJCU broke through with the first of two goals. Tristan Bastos put one past Rossilevin after getting the feed from Augusto Vieira, and twenty seconds later, Kenneth Valladares booted one off the feed from Bzuikiewicz.

The scoring rush was capped by Bzuikiewicz, who found the back of the net in the 60th minute to put the home team ahead by three. He narrowly had a second tally, but his attempt hit the crossbar. The Bloodhounds made two attempts to get on the board, courtesy of Josh Brayan and Ian Hartigan, but were unable to get one past Pascual Verdu.

The visitors were outshot, 10-6, with NJCU sending eight shots on goal to John Jay's two. Rossilevin made three saves while his teammate, Artem Khapugin, came in and made two stops in 26 minutes of work.

The Bloodhounds continue their road trip on Wednesday, September 17, as they will head to Newburgh, NY to take on Mount Saint Mary. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
