Men's Soccer Earns First Win Of 2025 With 1-0 Road Triumph At Eastern Mennonite On Friday

Harrisonburg, VA - The John Jay College men's soccer team emerged victorious at Eastern Mennonite on Friday afternoon thanks to junior tri-captain Josh Clemas' team-leading fifth goal in the 50th minute.

With the win, John Jay moves to 1-3 on the season while the Royals suffer their first loss of the season, falling to 2-1.

EMU had the first chance in scoring the fixture's first goal as Elijah Byrd sent a low lining shot that found the waiting arms of John Jay's sophomore keeper, Davio Rossilevin, four minutes into the contest.

Three minutes later, Jonathan Guzman sent an attempt that was blocked, but Hector Ortiz corralled the loose ball and rocketed a chance on goal that Rossilevin denied.

In the 25th minute, Yan Cesar fired a chance that was turned aside by Rossilevin, which prompted the Bloodhounds to go on the counter. With a stream of momentum, Clemas sent a shot that misfired to the left.

In the 43rd, newcomer Helmer Herrera had his shot directed left of the target. With a few mere seconds before the half, Clemas sent a chance that EMU's Ryan Bousfield stopped as the half concluded 0-0.

The Bloodhound capitalized five minutes into the second half. Clemas was able to bury the chance after fellow team captain John Gahuancela and Alejandro De Jesus combined for the assist, the first of the season for both.

In the 65th, Iverson Garcia of EMU sent a shot on net that Rossilevin kept away, preserving the one-goal advantage for the visitors.

Five minutes later, Clemas had a chance for his second tally but was denied by Bousfield.

In the 81st, the Bloodhound nearly had its second goal as Karl Menuau sent one in the box, but Bousfield was there for the stop.

Eastern Mennonite's final chance came in the 84 as Rossilevin turned Hamidullah Tokhi's shot away.

Rossilevin recorded his first clean sheet of the year, finishing with five saves. His counterpart, Bousfield, was credited with three stops and yielded one goal.

John Jay will close out their Virginia trip on Saturday, September 6, as they square off against Bridgewater College.

Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
