Essence Richardson stopped the run with a three-pointer off the feed from Jones with 2:23 left to play in the first quarter. Richardson would add a second triple with under a minute left to go in the frame as John Jay trailed 21-14 after one.

Jones commenced the second quarter with a floating jumper that brought the deficit down to five, 21-15, but the Bulldogs staged a 16-2 outburst over the next four minutes to increase their lead to 37-18 following a Quezada layup.

Lattimore halted the run with a layup for her first points of the contest, followed by completing the three-point play from the line. Crockett notched what turned out to be the final made field goal of the half as both couldn't find their footing to close out the second quarter.
