Kingston, RI - The John Jay rifle team dropped a tightly contested match in air rifle before the University of Rhode Island secured the win in smallbore, as the Bloodhounds fell 4424-4345 on Saturday.

Rhode Island was paced by Sophia Wood, who tallied a match-high 563. Emily Lopez was next at 554, followed by Alexander Travison at 550, Annika Reilly at 513, and Liam Kennings rounding out the grouping at 489.
In one of their closest air rifle matches of the season, John Jay came just two points short of tying the Rams, falling 2244-2242. Canning once again led the Bloodhounds, shooting a 575.
Mahek Dalwala followed at 561, with
Maria Belov at 560. Both Zhao and Dan shot 546 in the discipline.
The Rams were led by Lopez, who shot a 571. Wood was one off the pace at 570. Travison notched a 566 while Annika Reilly was next at 537, followed by Carly Albanese at 508.
The Bloodhounds will gear up for the NCAA Qualifier, held at the United States Naval Academy on Saturday, February 21. John Jay is scheduled for a postal match against Schreiner University.Â
