New York, NY - The John Jay men's volleyball team secured its fifth straight win and 10th of the season, as the Bloodhounds defeated the visiting Medgar Evers College Cougars (25-5; 25-3; 25-2).
John Jay moves to 10-6 overall and 4-2 in CUNYAC, while the Cougars remain winless at 0-9 and 0-4 in league play.
Jayden Ferril led the way with seven kills while
Steven Ajazi,
Adam Bainey, and
Adria Galve each added five kills.
Daniel Gonzalez Verdejo served up a match-high four aces while
Nick Fuentes and
Brandon Roman each added three.
Fuentes added five digs while
Maxwell Law notched 16 assists. Gonzalez Verdejo added 13 assists.
The Bloodhounds opened the match with seven straight points, including an ace from
Attila Nerette. The Cougars scored two straight points, including an ace from Nkosi Fraser. Fraser added a kill to get to within seven at 10-3, but a 15-2 run by John Jay sealed the set.
John Jay cruised to a 6-1 lead in the second set with Roman and
Sebastian Rodriguez each producing two kills during the run. Roman served up three aces as John Jay led 13-2. Rodriguez served up two aces to highlight the 12-0 run, as Ajazi recorded the kill for the set clincher.
The Bloodhounds opened up the third and final set on a 13-0 run, as Gonzalez Verdejo produced four aces. John Jay concluded the match on a 10-0 run, as Bainey served up his second ace of the set.
John Jay hit a season-high .576 for the match.
The Bloodhounds will look for their sixth straight win on Thursday as they welcome Mount Saint Joseph to The Doghouse for a first-ever meeting at 7:00 p.m.
