Purchase NY - The John Jay men's tennis team opened its 2026 campaign on Friday afternoon, falling to Purchase College, 6-1, at the PC Tennis Courts.
The Bloodhounds (0-1) picked up their lone point of the match in doubles play, as the pairing of
Samir Ghimire and
Davio Rossilevin delivered a strong 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles over Purchase's Dexter Pretnar and Ryan Hobson. However, Purchase (1-1) secured the doubles point by taking the No. 1 and No. 3 flights, both by 6-0 scores.
In singles action, Rossilevin continued his standout performance, earning John Jay's only singles victory of the day with a decisive 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles against Markian Nychka.
The Panthers controlled the remainder of singles play, highlighted by straight-set victories at Nos. 1, 3, 5, and 6. At the top spot,
Agustin Lopez dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision to Eli Palagatshev, while
Josh Clemas fell at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1.
The most competitive match of the afternoon came at No. 2 singles, where Ghimire battled to a three-set thriller. After dropping the opening set 6-3, Ghimire responded with a 6-4 second-set win before ultimately falling in a super tiebreak, 10-4, to Isaac Spottek.
David Reynoso (No. 5) and
Ian Hartigan (No. 6) also competed for the Bloodhounds but were unable to overcome their Purchase counterparts in straight sets.
John Jay will be action on Saturday afternoon as they open up CUNY Athletic Conference play against Hunter at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY .
