Men's Tennis Earns First Win of Season with 5-2 Victory Over Sarah Lawrence

FLUSHING, N.Y. — The John Jay men's tennis team secured its first win of the 2026 campaign with a 5-2 triumph over Sarah Lawrence on Saturday afternoon at the USTA National Tennis Center.

John Jay (1-2) claimed two of three doubles matches to take early momentum before sealing the match with three singles victories and a default point.
 



The Bloodhounds picked up a key win at No. 2 doubles as the duo of Agustin Lopez and Josh Clemas dominated, 6-1. John Jay also earned the No. 3 doubles point by default, giving the hosts a 2-1 advantage heading into singles play. Sarah Lawrence's tandem of Jules Voorhoeve and Leon Bronshvag captured No. 1 doubles, 6-4.

In singles action, John Jay delivered strong performances across the lineup to clinch the match. At No. 1, Samir Ghimire battled past Voorhoeve in a tightly contested straight-set victory, 7-6, 6-2. Lopez followed with a commanding 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles.

Clemas provided the clinching point at No. 4 singles, rallying after dropping the first set to defeat Benjamin Berkson, 0-6, 6-2, 6-3.

The Bloodhounds also secured a point at No. 6 singles via default.

Sarah Lawrence (1-4) earned its two points at No. 3 and No. 5 singles, as Avery Romano-Villani outlasted Davio Rossilevin in three sets, and Connor Wood topped Ian Hartigan in straight sets.

John Jay resumes CUNYAC play on Tuesday, March 31 as the Bloodhounds will host Brooklyn College at the USTA National Tennis Center.
