New Haven, CT - The John Jay men's tennis team dropped a conference road contest to Albertus Magnus, 6-1, on Friday afternoon at Celentano Courts. The Falcons swept doubles play and secured five singles victories, while the Bloodhounds picked up one win in singles competition.
Albertus Magnus (2-4; 2-2 CUNYAC) opened the match by taking all three doubles flights to claim the early 3-0 advantage. At No. 1 doubles, Eric Chamandy and Michael Ramsey defeated
Samir Ghimire and
Josh Clemas, 6-4. The Falcons extended the lead at No. 2 doubles as Peter Keese and Zane Kindrachuk earned a 6-0 win over
David Reynoso and
Jayden Gonzalez. Bailey Kirwin and Ervie Terwillger completed the sweep with a 6-1 victory over
Davio Rossilevin and
Manuela Orrego at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, John Jay (1-6; 0-4 CUNYAC) earned its lone point at No. 2 singles.
Davio Rossilevin delivered a strong performance, defeating Michael Ramsey in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, to put the Bloodhounds on the board.
Albertus Magnus secured the remaining singles matches to clinch the overall victory. At No. 1 singles, Chamandy topped Ghimire, 6-3, 6-0. Keese defeated Clemas, 6-3, 6-1, at the third position, while Kindrachuk earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Gonzalez at No. 4 singles. Kirwin added a 6-0, 6-2 victory against Orrego at No. 5 singles.
The most competitive match of the afternoon came at No. 6 singles, where
Ian Hartigan pushed Gustavo Soto in a tight contest. Soto ultimately prevailed in straight sets, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, to close out the match.
John Jay continues conference play on Tuesday, April 14 as they travel to Lehman for a 4:00 p.m. start.
