Baseball Falls To Neumann On Thursday Afternoon

Aston, PA - The John Jay baseball team fell to Neumann, 16-4, on Thursday afternoon at Bruder Field.

Neumann set the tone early, capitalizing on miscues and timely hitting to build a commanding lead. After an unearned run in the first inning, the Knights erupted for seven runs in the second, using a combination of patience at the plate and extra-base power. Trevor Yeager drew a bases-loaded walk before Anthony Rakotz broke the game open with a three-RBI triple. Brayden Fields followed with an RBI double, and Blake Decker added a two-run single as Neumann surged ahead, 8-0.

Fields was a catalyst throughout the afternoon, finishing 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI, while Rakotz drove in three runs. Decker added two hits and three RBI, and Nick Ciesielka contributed a three-hit, four-run performance, consistently applying pressure on the bases.

John Jay responded in the third inning, manufacturing a run as Mark Piri reached, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a throwing error to get the Bloodhounds on the board.

Neumann answered immediately with a four-run third inning, highlighted by RBI hits from Fields, Ciesielka, Andrew Brown, and Yoan Feliz, pushing the advantage to 12-1 and maintaining control of the contest.

The Knights extended the lead further in the fifth when Alex Gambol launched a two-run home run to left field, and Decker followed with an RBI double, stretching the margin to 15-1.

John Jay showed fight in the sixth inning.  Jaxen Gangwish sparked the rally by drawing a walk, stealing second, and advancing to third on a throwing error. Sebastian Sanchez delivered an RBI single to score Gangwish, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Bloodhounds.

Moments later, Vincent Gangone came through with a pinch-hit RBI single, and James Horodyski followed with an RBI on a fielder's choice, plating Sanchez and trimming the deficit to 15-4. Gangone finished 1-for-1 with an RBI, while Horodyski added a run driven in.

Neumann added one more run in the bottom half of the sixth on an RBI fielder's choice by Colton Shaub to cap the scoring at 16-4.

Isaac Salazar also contributed at the plate for John Jay with a hit, while Gangwish reached base and scored, adding a stolen base to his line. Hayden Tackett drew a walk and scored a run as part of the sixth-inning rally.

On the mound, Alex Morrissey took the loss for the Bloodhounds, while Neumann's Josh Lillis earned the win after tossing four innings, allowing just one unearned run while striking out six.

The Bloodhounds resume CUNYAC play on Saturday, as John Jay heads to New Rochelle, NY, at Flowers Park to square off against CCNY.

First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
