Bronx, NY - The John Jay baseball team dropped its conference lidlifter on Friday at Lehman, falling 10-9 in game one before dropping an 11-6 decision in the nightcap.

Game 1 | John Jay 9, Lehman 10
A six-run fifth inning wasn't enough for John Jay, as the Bloodhounds fell in a back-and-forth battle, 10-9, to Lehman on Friday afternoon at South Field.
Â
John Jay (1-19) pounded out 11 hits and erased an early deficit with a dominant middle frame, but Lehman (1-15) capitalized on late opportunities — including a two-run sixth and a two-run seventh aided by defensive miscues — to walk off with the victory.
The Bloodhounds came out swinging in the opening inning, as
Jaxen Gangwish launched a solo home run to center before
Sebastian Sanchez followed with a blast of his own to give John Jay a quick 2-0 lead.
Lehman responded immediately in the bottom half, highlighted by a two-run homer from Hecnel Guzman, flipping the score to 3-2. After Gangwish tied the game in the third with an RBI double, Lehman regained control with single runs in the third and a two-run fourth to take a 6-3 advantage.
The turning point came in the fifth inning, when John Jay erupted for six runs on five hits to reclaim a 9-6 lead. Gangwish delivered again with an RBI double, while
Julian Diaz,
Hayden Tackett,
Alex Daly, and
James Horodyski each drove in runs during the rally. The inning was capped by aggressive baserunning and pressure that forced a Lehman error, allowing two unearned runs to cross.
Gangwish led the offensive charge, finishing 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, three RBI, and two runs scored.
Mark Piri also had a strong day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases, while Sanchez added a homer and a walk.
Lehman chipped away in the sixth inning, as Brandon Deynes delivered a clutch two-run single to cut the deficit to one. In the seventh, Lehman capitalized on a pair of John Jay errors, plating two unearned runs to complete the comeback.
On the mound,
Thiago Telles started for the Bloodhounds, allowing six runs over 3.2 innings.
Julio Reyes (0-2) took the loss despite striking out four over 2.2 innings, as only two of the four runs he allowed were earned.
Lehman's DeShawn Ansah-Pena (1-0) earned the complete-game victory, scattering 11 hits while striking out six.
Game 2 | John Jay 6, Lehman 11
Despite another multi-hit effort at the plate and flashes of offensive momentum, John Jay dropped the nightcap of Friday's doubleheader, 11-6, to Lehman at South Field.
The Bloodhounds (1-20) collected 11 hits for the second straight game but were unable to contain Lehman's timely hitting and aggressive baserunning, as the Lightning (2-15) used a pair of three-run innings to secure the win.
Lehman struck first in the second inning behind a two-run home run from Hecnel Guzman, followed by an RBI single from Steven Santos to take a 3-0 lead. John Jay answered in the third when
Jaxen Gangwish launched a solo homer to center — his second home run of the day — trimming the deficit to 3-1.
The Lightning responded immediately in the bottom half, as Argenis Sanchez delivered a two-run single to extend the lead to 5-1.
John Jay began to chip away in the fourth inning.
Mark Piri ripped an RBI double to center, and
Matthew Apostolou followed with a perfectly placed bunt single to bring the Bloodhounds within two, 5-3. An inning later,
Julian Diaz added a solo home run to cut the deficit to one.
Trailing 5-4, the game turned in the bottom of the fifth. Lehman capitalized on walks, small ball, and baserunning pressure to plate three runs, highlighted by an RBI sacrifice from Sanchez, an RBI single from Leniel Rivera, and a straight steal of home by Daniel McCrink to push the advantage to 8-4.
Lehman broke the game open in the sixth, taking advantage of defensive miscues to score three more runs — two of them unearned — extending the lead to 11-4.
John Jay continued to battle late, scoring twice in the seventh. After Gangwish reached and advanced on the bases,
Jayden Dixon delivered an RBI single, and
Jose Suero followed with a run-scoring hit to close the gap to 11-6, but the rally fell short.
Gangwish led the offense once again, going 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, and two stolen bases. Piri stayed hot at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance and an RBI, while Suero added two hits and a run driven in. Diaz also contributed with a solo homer as part of John Jay's balanced attack.
On the mound,
Sebastian Sanchez (0-3) took the loss after allowing eight runs over five innings.
Alex Morrissey worked the final inning, allowing three runs — just one earned — as John Jay was hurt by two errors in the field.
Lehman was powered by a strong offensive showing from Deynes (3-for-4, RBI, two runs) and Sanchez (three RBI), while Guzman's early home run set the tone. David Torres (1-4) earned the win for the Lightning.
