Men's Tennis Topped By Mount Saint Mary 5-2, On Monday Evening Under The Lights At USTA National Tennis Center

Flushing, NY — The John Jay men's tennis team fell to Mount Saint Mary College, 5-2, on Monday evening at the USTA National Tennis Center. The Bloodhounds earned two singles victories, but the Knights secured the match by sweeping doubles play and capturing four singles contests.

Mount Saint Mary College (4-6) jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage after taking all three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, John Paul Corini and Luke Baylis defeated Samir Ghimire and Davio Rossilevin, 6-3. The Knights extended the lead at No. 2 doubles as Sean Watson and Marco Collarelli topped Josh Clemas and Agustin Lopez, 6-0. Christian Forcelli and Dylan Stackpole completed the doubles sweep with a 6-1 victory over David Reynoso and Ian Hartigan at the third position.

Trailing 3-0 entering singles play, John Jay (1-4) responded with a pair of strong wins. Agustin Lopez put the Bloodhounds on the board at No. 3 singles, rallying past Sean Watson, 6-2, 7-5. Josh Clemas followed with a straight-set victory at No. 5 singles, defeating Dylan Stackpole, 6-2, 6-4, to pull John Jay within 3-2.

Mount Saint Mary College secured the match with wins at the top, fourth, and sixth singles positions. At No. 1 singles, Corini defeated Ghimire, 7-5, 6-2. Collarelli earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Reynoso at No. 4 singles to give the Knights their fourth point.

The final match of the evening came down to a third-set super tiebreak at No. 6 singles, where Mateo Romero edged Hartigan, 4-6, 7-5, 14-12.

Rossilevin also forced a third set at No. 2 singles before falling to Baylis, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2.

The Bloodhounds resume CUNYAC on Wednesday, April 8, as they will take on Baruch at 12:30 p.m. from the USTA National Tennis Center.
