New York, NY - The John Jay women's soccer team generated 11 shots, including five on goal, but the Bloodhounds fell to Kean University, 4-0, on Wednesday afternoon at Randall's Island.
John Jay moves to 0-4 on the season, while Kean improves to 3-3.
The Bloodhounds created an early opportunity as
Ava Lopez put a shot on target just 2:41 into the contest, forcing Kean goalkeeper Brooke Ginsberg to make the save. Kean responded just over two minutes later when Carly Gleason opened the scoring at the 4:54 mark.
The Cougars doubled their advantage in the 28th minute as Natalia Soler scored off an assist from Gleason to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.
Sofia Soler nearly got John Jay on the board late in the opening half, placing a shot on goal in the 36th minute that was stopped by Ginsberg.
John Jay continued to push forward after halftime. Soler tested Ginsberg again in the 56th minute before the Bloodhounds generated several opportunities during the latter stages of the contest.
Brithany Zhibri Xique fired a shot wide in the 73rd minute before
Annmarie Russo, Soler and Lopez each registered attempts in a span of just over a minute. Lopez's effort was turned away by Ginsberg.
Kean put the match away with two goals in quick succession. Olivia Cusick scored in the 75th minute before Katelyn Greiner found the back of the net at 76:49, with Rachel Nixon assisting on both goals.
The Bloodhounds finished with 11 shots and five shots on goal. Soler led John Jay with three shots, including two on target, while Lopez recorded two shots with both on goal. Russo paced the Bloodhounds with four total attempts, and
Amiyah Milona added a shot on goal.
In net,
Anina Gut made eight saves over 80:06 of action.
Gianna Duarte played the final 9:54 and stopped the lone shot she faced.
The Bloodhounds will be back in action on September 23 as they welcome Kean Jersey City to Randall's Island.
Kickoff is slated for 3:45 at Field 70.
