Morristown, NJ - The defending two-time CUNYAC women's soccer champions, the John Jay College Bloodhounds, earned their first win of the season, shutting out the Saint Elizabeth University Eagles, 8-0, on Saturday afternoon.
The Bloodhounds got on the board when newcomer
Bella Steele netted her second collegiate goal in the fifth minute. Twenty-four seconds later,
Ava Lopez pushed the lead to 2-0 on her first goal of the season.
John Jay continued its scoring run as
Annmarie Russo pushed the visitors ahead 3-0 with her goal in the ninth minute. Newcomer Genesis Quito netted a pair of scores a minute and twenty seconds apart as the lead swelled to 5-0.
John Jay took 27 shots in the opening half, 20 of them on target. Saint Elizabeth's goalkeeper Elizabeth Giamboy was credited with 15 saves in the first 45 minutes.
When play resumed in the second half, the Bloodhounds continued to test Giamboy as
Priana Lazerson netted her first collegiate goal in the 50th minute to make it 6-0.
Lopez booted a shot to the lower right quadrant for her second goal of the match as the Bloodhounds took a 7-0 advantage before newcomer
Nene Balde netted her first goal as a Bloodhound to secure the victory for the visitors.
In the match, the Bloodhounds attempted 51 shots, with 36 y on target. Lopez had a team-high 15 shots, with eight on target.
Sofia Soler had seven shots (six on target) while Lazerson registered six shots (five on target).
Junior goalkeeper
Gianna Duarte and
Nyxx Butler each combined for the shutout, without facing a shot on goal. Giamboy recorded 28 saves for the Eagles, while Mileyshka Delgado and Nacheca Joseph each attempted a shot.
The Bloodhounds will gear up for the first of six straight home contests, starting on Wednesday, September 23 as they welcome Kean Jersey City to Randall's Island - Field 70. Kickoff is slated for 3:45 p.m.
