Brooklyn, NY - The John Jay women's volleyball team opened CUNY Athletic Conference play on Tuesday evening, falling to Brooklyn College in three closely contested sets, 25-21, 25-21, 25-22, at the West Quad Center.

With the result, the Bloodhounds move to 3-8 overall and 0-1 in CUNYAC play, while Brooklyn improves to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in conference action.

Despite the straight-set result, John Jay finished with advantages in several statistical categories. The Bloodhounds totaled 33 kills compared to Brooklyn's 25, held a 10-8 edge in service aces and recorded 29 assists to the Bulldogs' 24. Brooklyn finished with a narrow 50-49 advantage in digs and 5-4 edge in blocks.

John Jay came out quickly in the second set. Back-to-back service aces from Mullan highlighted a 5-0 Bloodhound run that built a 7-2 advantage. Brooklyn answered with a run of its own to even the set at 7-7 and eventually moved in front. The Bloodhounds remained within striking distance and cut the deficit to 22-21 late before the Bulldogs captured the final three points for another 25-21 decision.

The third set was the tightest of the night. John Jay used consecutive aces from Hobson to take a 10-7 lead before Brooklyn rallied. The teams were tied at 12-12 and again at 13-13 before the Bulldogs used a 3-0 spurt to move ahead, 16-13.

Brooklyn later stretched its advantage to 23-18, but the Bloodhounds refused to go quietly. A Brooklyn attack error followed by kills from Hobson and MacInnes brought John Jay within one at 23-22. Brooklyn secured the next two points, however, to finish the set, 25-22, and complete the sweep.

Olive Carroll led Brooklyn with eight kills and three aces, while Saule Okeke-Ziburkus finished with seven kills and 10 digs. Mila Servania paced the Bulldogs with 12 digs.
