Charles Jackson will be entering his fourth season as head coach of the John Jay men’s basketball team for 2008-09.
Though in his fourth season, Jackson is on uncharted waters in John Jay annals already. In 2008 Jackson led the Bloodhounds to victory in the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) championship game for the first time in team history. And after earning an automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III championship tournament for the first time, he coached the Bloodhounds to victory in its opening round game.
A native of the Bronx, NY, Jackson is a 1989 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. And in addition 2000 Jackson received a master’s degree in education from Lehman College.
Prior to his tenure at John Jay, Jackson coached the men’s programs at Monroe College and Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT).
During his two seasons at FIT Jackson led the Tigers to a 25-34 record. At Monroe, Jackson guided the Mustangs for eight seasons (1995-2002) and had a combined record of 156-69, including two Region XV championships (1998 and 2000) and coached the Mustangs to the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association (NJCAA) championship game in 1998.
Also at Monroe, Jackson was three times named the Region XV Coach of the Year for men’s basketball winning the award during the 1996-97, 1997-98, and 1999-2000 seasons. Several players went on to play basketball at the Division I level after graduating from Monore.
In addition Jackson, who also served as head coach of the women’s basketball team at John Jay during the 2004-05 season, is a 1985 graduate of the Bronx’s own Harry S. Truman High School where he was a two-year letter winner on the varsity football team while playing wide receiver and running back.
Jackson is also currently an active member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
In addition to his coaching duties with the Bloodhounds, Jackson serves as Assistant Director of Athletics at John Jay where his primary role is to evaluate the coaches of the other 11 teams at John Jay and serve as compliance officer to ensure all student athletes are eligible to compete. He directs and / or serves on various committees including the Hall of Fame and Awards banquet committee.
He currently resides in Teaneck, N.J. with his wife Danielle and their two sons Chaz (6) and Chase (4).
