DeVernie Winston

DeVernie Winston is in his first season as assistant coach of the men’s basketball program at John Jay College.
 
A native New Yorker, Winston is a 2000 graduate of the Fredrick Douglass Academy High School where he led the boy’s basketball and volleyball teams to two consecutive league championships.
 
Winston comes to the program with a wealth of basketball knowledge. He graduated from St. Lawrence University with a degree in Sports and Business Theory. He was a key reserve guard and forward for the men’s basketball team which twice earned berths into the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Upstate Regional tournament, including a championship in 2001.
 
Winston’s basketball experience exceeds beyond the college ranks. He has played semiprofessional basketball in France and has competed with American based teams that have traveled across the United States. He has also coached in statewide tournaments amassing powerhouse teams comprised of collegiate and semiprofessional athletes.
 
 
Outside of coaching Winston is an entrepreneur. He is the owner of Winston Prestige, Inc., an e-commerce based distribution company. He also owns a private practice, which primarily includes sign language interpreting.
 
Winston resides in Harlem, N.Y. with his fiancé Jeniece and two children Jadah (3) and Anari (1).
