Louie Al-Hafidh is in his first season as an assistant coach with the men's basketball program. He was hired in September 2019 and spent the last year as a Graduate Assistant and Video Coordinator on Columbia University’s Women's Basketball Coaching Staff. Al-Hafidh’s current responsibilities for John Jay include assisting with video, analytics, scouting, and game preparation.

While at Columbia, Al-Hafidh earned his Master of Science in Sports Management in 2019. He helped the women’s basketball team with Synergy and SportsCode video projects, while tracking shot selection, transition offense, and defensive impact per possession.

As a graduate student, Al-Hafidh was elected President of the Sports Management Association and earned first place in Columbia’s Basketball Analytics Case Competition. After earning a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of Southern California, he worked at Google for six years.

This past summer, Al-Hafidh volunteered as a Financial Literacy Student Instructor for the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA). He also attended the Sports Business Classroom at NBA Summer League to learn the NBA Salary Cap and Collective Bargaining Agreement.

In his spare time, Al-Hafidh enjoys exploring the various NYC neighborhoods and eating at their iconic local restaurants. Originally from Dallas, he grew up a huge Dirk Nowitzki fan and is still trying to copy Dirk’s patented fade away jumper.
