Ralph Godfrey embarks on his first season as an assistant coach for the John Jay men's basketball team. Godfrey brings a combination of collegiate coaching, player development, scouting and recruiting experience to his basketball career, having worked at the NCAA, AAU and elite training levels.

Before arriving at John Jay, Godfrey served as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Sarah Lawrence College, a position he began in August 2025. With the Gryphons, Godfrey is responsible for preparing scouting reports and game plans, breaking down film and conducting position- and role-specific player development workouts. He also assists with equipment and student manager oversight and other day-to-day responsibilities within the program. Godfrey has compiled an 8-1 record in games in which he has been responsible for the scouting assignment.

Prior to joining Sarah Lawrence, Godfrey spent two seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater, The City College of New York. From 2023-25, he handled scouting reports, game planning, film breakdown and player development while helping coordinate weekly schedules and team travel logistics. He posted a 28-19 record on scouting assignments and also managed the program's social media and newsletter, which grew to more than 125 subscribers.

Godfrey has also gained extensive experience in individual player development through his work with Pro Hoops in New York City. Since 2022, he has assisted with private individual and group workouts while gaining experience working alongside elite trainers and with players who have competed overseas, in the NBA G League and in the NBA.

In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Godfrey has served as an AAU head coach with the Pro Level Titans since April 2024. In that role, he leads practices and skill-development workouts, coaches in weekly tournaments and mentors players through the college recruitment process, including video creation and communication with college coaches. He also coordinates travel logistics for players and their families.

Godfrey has further developed his coaching background on the elite camp circuit. He served as an Elite Camp Coach with Yale men's basketball from August 2024 through August 2025 and has worked as an Elite Camp Coach with Hoop Group since July 2023. His responsibilities have included coaching teams, planning and executing skill-development drills and providing student-athletes with guidance throughout the recruiting process.

A former collegiate student-athlete, Godfrey played two seasons of men's basketball at CCNY after previously competing for three years on the varsity level at Leman Manhattan Prep School and one season of junior varsity basketball at Louis D. Brandeis.

Godfrey earned his Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from CCNY in June 2023, graduating with a 3.30 GPA. His academic honors included selection to the 2023 Vice Chancellor's Honor Roll, recognition as a 2023 CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Honorable Mention and being part of a program that earned the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award in 2022 and 2023.
