Box Score The women's volleyball team swept SUNY Maritime, 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-18), on Tuesday night in Throggs Neck. The Bloodhounds have now won two matches in a row and are 5-17 on the season (1-6 in CUNYAC). With the loss, the Privateers fall to 2-24 overall.
In the first set, John Jay went on an early 6-0 run to give them an 11-3 lead. The Bloodhounds won the set after taking five out of the last six points.
In the second set, Maritime took an early lead but John Jay responded with 10 straight points to take a 12-4 lead. The Privateers made a late run but ultimately the Bloodhounds won the set.
The third set went back-and-forth as the score was tied at 10. The Bloodhounds recorded eight straight points late in the set to give them a 3-0 sweep on the night.
Senior
Martina Hot recorded a double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs to go along with four aces. Junior
Katherine Bonilla also picked up a double-double with 28 assists and 12 digs. Junior
Ashley Diaz registered six kills and five assists. Junior
Sandy Requeno added seven kills. Sophomores
Latanya Buckham and
Perla Pozo recorded 11 and 7 digs, respectively.
"We had a solid all-around team effort tonight," head coach
Eder Mathelier said. "Hopefully we can extend our two-game winning streak."
The Bloodhounds will look to do so on Thursday, October 23 when they head to the College of Saint Elizabeth for a match at 7:00pm.
