The women's volleyball team closed out their 2014 regular season with a tournament at New Jersey City University. The Bloodhounds went 2-2 in the tournament and finished in third place. John Jay ends the season with an overall record of 11-13 and 3-5 in the CUNY Athletic Conference.
On Saturday, the Bloodhounds fell to the College of Staten Island, 3-1 (25-6, 18-25, 25-14, 25-15), and then lost to CCNY, 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-19, 27-25). In the match against the Dolphins, junior
Latanya Buckham recorded a team-high 17 digs and five kills. Senior
Katherine Bonilla dished out 22 assists to go along with six digs and three service aces. Freshman
Rachel Eng registered 16 digs, six kills and three service aces. Junior
Perla Pozo added 14 digs. Later that day against the Beavers, Eng led the Bloodhounds with 11 kills and seven digs. Junior
Jeanette Luna picked up nine kills and three service aces. Bonilla had 32 assists and Pozo finished with 20 digs.
On Sunday, John Jay defeated NJCU, 3-2 (25-23, 25-13, 16-25, 18-25, 15-12), for the Bloodhounds' first-ever win in Jersey City over NJCU. The win snapped NJCU's 20-match winning streak in the series. John Jay's last win over NJCU was on October 9, 1994. In the match, Eng and Bonilla finished with double-doubles. Eng recorded 13 kills and 19 digs, while Bonilla registered 37 assists and 10 digs. Luna added nine kills and senior
Hakimah Lovell-McFee picked up eight kills. Senior
Ashley Diaz added 10 digs and five kills.
The Bloodhounds then faced CCNY for third place and defeated the Beavers, 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-19). Bonilla and Eng fell shy of double-doubles for a second straight game. Eng had nine kills and nine digs. Bonilla dished out 22 assists and registered nine digs. Buckham finished with eight digs and eight kills. Freshman
Morgan Nugent had John Jay's two blocks.
For her efforts, Eng was named to the All-Tournament team.
The Bloodhounds travel to Baruch College on Tuesday, November 4, for a CUNYAC Quarterfinals match at 7pm.
