The men's basketball team was defeated by Lehman College, 67-60, on Tuesday night in the Bronx. With the loss, the Bloodhounds fall to 1-3 on the season and 0-1 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Lightning improve to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in CUNYAC.
Senior
Korede Griffith led John Jay with a team-high 15 points, four rebounds, and a game-high 4 steals. Junior
Kendal Jordan picked up his third double-double of the season with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and two steals. Junior
Calvin Ingram recorded 10 points, five rebounds, four assists, one block, and one steal. Senior
Anthony Saldarriaga dished out four assists and sophomore
Jesse Higgins had two steals off the bench.
Four minutes into the contest, the Bloodhounds led by four on a lay-up by Ingram. Jordan's free-throw increased the Bloodhounds lead to six halfway through the first half. Five minutes later, the Lightning tied up the game at 17 apiece and eventually took a one-point lead on a free-throw. The Bloodhounds responded and went up by four on a three-pointer and jump shot by Griffith. Once again, the Lightning recaptured the lead with just under three minutes remaining in the half. A lay-up by Jordan gave John Jay a 29-26 lead heading into halftime.
Early on in the second half, both teams exchanged buckets. With the Bloodhounds up by three, junior
Ronald Merriwether nailed a three-pointer to give John Jay its largest lead of the second half. The Lightning tied the game on consecutive three's with 14:22 remaining.
Down by five halfway through the second, the Bloodhounds went on a 6-0 run to regain the lead, 48-47. Three minutes later, the Lightning tied it at 52 apiece. Lehman then went on a 5-0 run to give them a 57-52 lead with just under five minutes left in the game. John Jay was unable to chip away and would go on to fall by a final score of 67-60.
