The women's volleyball team picked up their first win of the season this weekend, but fell in its other three matches. On Friday, the Bloodhounds were defeated by Wesley College and College of Saint Elizabeth. The following day, John Jay defeated Maritime and then lost to Manhattanville. The Bloodhounds start the season with a 1-3 record.
In the match against Wesley, the Bloodhounds fell 3-1 (25-14, 25-19, 14-25, 25-22). Junior
Katherine Bonilla led John Jay with a double-double with 17 digs and 12 assists to go along with two service aces. Junior
Latanya Buckham finished with a game-high seven kills. Freshman
Rachel Eng added 11 digs, four kills, and a team-high three service aces.
Later that day, John Jay lost to the College of Saint Elizabeth 3-1. More information about this match will be posted.
In John Jay's lone win this weekend, the Bloodhounds defeated Maritime 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-22). Eng registered a game-high 10 kills to go along with eight digs and two service aces. Bonilla dished out 19 assists and junior
Jeanette Luna recorded a game-high two blocks. Buckham and junior
Perla Pozo added finished with 15 and nine digs, respectively.
In the last match of the weekend, John Jay lost to Manhattanville 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-17). Four Bloodhounds finished with double-digit digs (Pozo, Eng, Buckham, and freshman Ana Gevorgyan). Luna led John Jay with five kills and Bonilla had 12 assists.
The Bloodhounds head to Montclair State University on Saturday, September 6 for a match at 1:00pm.
