Despite leading for 33 minutes, the men's basketball team fell to Medgar Evers College, 67-61, on Wednesday night in Brooklyn. The Bloodhounds drop to 2-13 overall and 1-6 in CUNYAC. The Cougars improve to 2-12 on the season and 1-6 in the conference.

Korede Griffith hit two jumpers. With 15:24 left in the first half, Griffith made a three to put John Jay on top, 13-6. The Cougars responded with a three of their own to cut the deficit back down to four.

Anthony Saldarriaga recorded the next five points of the game, capped off by a three-point play. Halfway through the half and the Bloodhounds leading 25-15, Medgar Evers went on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to three. With just under one minute remaining, the Cougars trailed by two but John Jay ended the half on a 5-0 run to lead 36-29.
In the second half, Owens increased the Bloodhounds lead to eight on a jumper. Three minutes later, Griffith made a lay-up to give the Bloodhounds a 43-34 lead. The Cougars then went on a 8-2 run to cut the deficit to three. Two free-throws by senior
Darell Robinson put the Bloodhounds back up, 47-42 with 11:10 left in the contest.
Four minutes later, Medgar Evers tied the game at 51 apiece. They took their first lead of the game with 5:57 remaining in the game. Three minutes later, John Jay tied the game on a jumper by Robinson. The Cougars regained the lead on their next possession and would not look back. They would go on to pick up their first conference win by a score of 67-61.
Owens led the Bloodhounds with a game-high 21 points, a team-high seven rebounds, and a team-high two steals. Griffith scored 16 points, on 7-for-14 shooting, six rebounds, and a game-high two blocks. Robinson recorded 12 points, a game-high seven assists, and six rebounds.
The Bloodhounds travel to York College on Friday, January 16, for a conference match at 8 p.m.
