Kris Owens Records 1,000th Career Point in Loss to William Paterson

Senior Kris Owens dropped a game-high 34 points and became the 14th Bloodhound player in program history to record 1,000 career points in a 80-66 loss to William Paterson on Monday afternoon in Wayne, NJ. The Bloodhounds fall to 3-14 on the season while Pioneers improve to an impressive 14-2. 

William Paterson took an early lead but Owens drained a three to put the Bloodhounds on top for their first lead of the contest. With the score tied at 3-3, the Pioneers went on a 9-0 run with 13:54 left in the first half. 

With the Bloodhounds trailing 16-7, Owens hit a jumper and three-pointer to cut the deficit to four. Halfway through the half and John Jay down 18-15, the Pioneers broke open the game on a 13-0 run. John Jay went into the half trailing, 45-27. 

Owens led all scorers with 16 points, on 6-for-12 shooting. Senior Darell Robinson had five points and senior Korede Griffith grabbed six rebounds. In the half, the Bloodhounds went 9-for-32 (28.1%) from the floor and 4-for-9 (44.4%) from behind the arc. The Pioneers shot 50% (18-for-36) from the field. 

The second half started with Owens converting on a three-point play. One minute into the half, the Bloodhounds went on a 16-2 run to cut the deficit to 49-46. William Paterson responded right away with a 6-0 run of their own to increase their lead to nine. 

Owens made a lay-up and then converted on a four-point play to cut the lead down to three. Once again, the Pioneers responded and registered the next 10 points of the game. With 5:36 remaining in the second half, William Paterson led 65-52.

The hosts would go on to pick up their 14th win of the season by a final score of 80-66. 

Owens finished the game shooting 12-for-24 (50%) from the field, including hitting seven three-pointers, with seven rebounds. Robinson recorded nine points and senior Anthony Saldarriaga dished out a team-high four assists. Griffith picked up eight boards and swiped three steals. Sophomore Geno Ware added five points, five rebounds, and two assists. 

The Bloodhounds return to conference play on Wednesday, January 21, against the Lehman Lightning at 7 p.m. The game will be played at the College of Staten Island.
