Box Score The #6 women's tennis team lost to #3 Hunter College, 5-3, on Friday afternoon in the CUNYAC Quarterfinals at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, Queens. The Bloodhounds end the season with a 1-10 overall record and 1-5 conference record. The Hawks advance to the semifinals where they will face the College of Staten Island.
With John Jay trailing 1-0 in doubles, the number one duo of sophomore
Bernarda Reyes and freshman
Rageene Berry notched a 9-7 victory to tie the score at one apiece. The Hawks took number two doubles to lead 2-1 heading into singles play.
In singles, Berry tied the match score at 2-2 when she won at the number two spot, 6-1, 6-1. Hunter regained the lead after taking five and six to lead 4-2. The Bloodhounds closed the gap when junior
Gabriela Baez won 6-3, 6-2 at number four. But the Hawks won the match when they collected a win at the first spot.
This match turned out to be the final one of Jessica Melchiorre's collegiate career. The Athletics Department wishes her the best of luck in the future!
