Men's Basketball Falls in Final Regular Season Game to CCNY

The men's basketball team finished the regular season with a loss to City College (CCNY), 79-71, on Saturday afternoon on the campus of City College. The Bloodhounds end the season with a 5-20 overall record and 4-12 CUNYAC record. The Beavers improve to 7-16 on the season and 2-13 in the conference. 

John Jay took an early 5-2 lead after senior Kris Owens hit a jumper and senior Korede Griffith drained a three. With 16:22, City College tied the game at 5-5. The next six minutes consisted of three ties and two lead changes. 

With the Bloodhounds leading 13-11 with 10:17 left in the first half, CCNY went on an 8-0 run to lead by 18-13. Five minutes later, John Jay trimmed the deficit to two, 21-19. 

The Beavers went into halftime leading, 32-31. John Jay went 11-for-26 (42.3%) in the half and 4-for-10 (40.0%) from behind the arc. 

Senior Darell Robinson opened up the second half with a three-pointer to give the Bloodhounds a two-point lead. The host's then broke open the game on a 13-0 run to lead, 48-35. With 8:26 left to go, CCNY increased its lead to 17. 

John Jay trimmed the deficit to six with 4:54 remaining. The Bloodhounds would get within four points but were unable to get any closer and eventually fell, 79-71. 

Robinson led the Bloodhounds in scoring with 20 points and dished out two assists. Sophomore Ronald Merriwether recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Anthony Saldarriaga registered 17 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Senior Korede Griffith picked up seven points, three assists, and a team-high three steals. Owens added 10 points and six rebounds.

The Bloodhounds finish the season as the seven seed and will face the #2 seed on Sunday, February 22. Stay tuned for more information.
