The men's basketball team lost to Geneva College (PA), 85-80, on Friday night in Beaver Falls, PA. The Bloodhounds fall to 0-2 on the season.
Junior
MiKing Richardson finished with a team-high 22 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Sophomore
Essien Epps recorded 13 points, a team-high six rebounds, a game-high four steals, and three assists. Freshmen
Tyrone Dennis and
Wyatt Harkins finished with 13 points each. Freshman
Doug Levy added eight points and senior
Geno Ware grabbed five boards. Sophomore
Jordan Aiken came off the bench to swipe three steals.
The first six minutes went back-and-forth as the game was tied at 10 apiece. Geneva followed on an 8-0 run but increased their lead to 32-15 with 6:12 left in the half. The Bloodhounds cut the deficit to 43-32 heading into the second half.
The hosts increased their lead to 15 but John Jay responded on an 11-0 run to trail 47-43. Wth 12:37 left to go, the Bloodhounds tied the score, 55-55. Eight minutes later, John Jay took its first lead of the period, 71-70. Geneva scored five straight points but Richardson responded by converting on a three-point play to trail 75-74. Geneva would hit late free throws to hold on for the win.
John Jay finished 26-for-60 (43.3%) from the floor, 5-for-17 (29.4%) from behind the arc, and 23-for-32 (71.9%) from the charity stripe.
The Bloodhounds will face Otterbein University in the consolation game on Saturday, November 19, at 1:00 pm.
