The men's basketball team fell to New York University, 63-50, on Tuesday night in the home opener at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds drop to 0-4 on the season. The Violets improve to 3-0.
Sophomore
Essien Epps fell one rebound shy of a double-double with a team-high 11 points and team-high nine rebounds. Junior
MiKing Richardson registered nine points, a team-high three steals, and three rebounds. Freshman
Wyatt Harkins picked up seven points and freshman
Doug Levy grabbed eight rebounds and had two blocks. Junior
Sherwayne Morrison came off the bench to register six boards and senior
Geno Ware finished with six points and six rebounds.
NYU scored the first four points of the game but John Jay responded on a 5-0 run to take their first lead of the game. With the Violets up by three, the guests scored seven straight points to take a 21-11 advantage with 7:31 left in the first half. John Jay followed on a 12-2 run to tie the score 23-23. NYU ended the period on a 9-2 run to head into halftime leading 32-25.
The Bloodhounds cut the deficit to three with 12:35 remaining. Leading 39-36, the visitors went on a 10-3 run to increase their lead to 10 with 5:24 left to go. John Jay was able to cut the deficit to eight but would go on to lose by a final score of 63-50.
John Jay finished 20-for-69 (29.0%) from the field, 3-for-15 (20.0%) from behind the arc, and 7-for-15 (46.7%) from the free throw line.
The Bloodhounds travel to the College of Staten Island for their first conference game of the season on Tuesday, November 29, at 7:30 pm.
