The men's volleyball team swept Medgar Evers College, 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-14) on Wednesday evening at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds improve to 2-1 overall and in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Cougars drop to 0-5 and 0-3 in the conference.
Senior
Nicholas Anderson dished out a game-high 27 assists to go along with four service aces. Senior
Jack Palleschi recorded a game-high 13 kills, a game-high eight service aces, and four digs. Sophomore
Juan DeJesus registered eight kills. Junior
Francisco Miranda totaled five kills and six digs.
The Bloodhounds took an early 4-2 lead but the Cougars fought back to cut the deficit to 5-4. John Jay increased its lead to 12-7 before going on an 8-2 run to go up by 11. The hosts took the first set by a score of 25-12. With the score tied 1-1 in the second, the Bloodhounds rallied off six straight points to lead 7-1. Up by five, John Jay went on a 14-2 run to win the second set, 25-12. In the third stanza with Palleschi serving, the Bloodhounds recorded 10 straight points to lead 10-1. With John Jay leading 18-5, Medgar Evers made a late comeback but the Bloodhounds would complete the sweep, 25-14.
John Jay recorded 33 kills, 30 assists, 15 service aces, three blocks, and 23 digs.
The Bloodhounds host a CUNYAC multi-match at the Doghouse on Monday, February 15. John Jay faces Brooklyn College at 11:00 am and York College at 5:00 pm.
