The men's volleyball team closed out the regular season with a 3-2 (22-25, 25-16, 25-18, 21-25, 15-11) win over Brooklyn College on Tuesday evening in Brooklyn, NY. The Bloodhounds finish the season with an overall record of 15-11 and conference record of 11-5.
Senior
Jack Palleschi and sophomore
Juan DeJesus registered double-doubles for John Jay. DeJesus recorded a team-high 17 kills and 14 digs. Palleschi picked up 11 kills, a game-high 16 digs, and a team-high two solo blocks. Senior
Nicholas Anderson dished out a game-high 40 assists to go along with eight digs, five kills, and two service aces. Junior
Francisco Miranda tallied 10 kills, six digs, and a team-high four aces. Sophomore
Alexander Santana added five kills, seven digs, and three service aces. Sophomore
Ivan Yeung had seven digs.
The first set went back-and-forth as the Bloodhounds led 10-8. With the score tied at 15-15, both teams went on 3-0 runs. Brooklyn ended the first set on a 7-4 run to take the set, 25-22. Trailing 3-1 in the second, John Jay scored five straight points to lead 6-3. The Bloodhounds then went on a 6-2 run to increase its lead to 14-7. Up by four, John Jay went on a 5-1 run to lead 19-11. The Bulldogs followed by taking four straight points before the Bloodhounds closed out the set on a 6-1 run.
The third set began with both teams exchanging 3-0 runs. With the score at 11-11, John Jay went on a 10-2 run to take a 21-13 advantage. The Bloodhounds eventually took the set, 25-18. The fourth went back-and-forth as the score was tied at eight apiece. John Jay scored three straight points before Brooklyn went on a 9-3 run to lead 17-14. The Bulldogs ended the set recording the final three points, 25-21.
In the fifth and deciding set, both teams exchanged points as Brooklyn led 3-2. John Jay fired off five straight points to go up by four. The Bloodhounds went on a 4-1 run to lead 11-5. The Bulldogs responded with a 6-1 run to trail, 12-11. However, John Jay sealed the victory by taking the final three points of the match.
The Bloodhounds totaled 53 kills, 51 assists, 11 service aces, and 63 digs.
John Jay finished the regular season with a program-best 15 overall wins and 11 conference victories.
The #3 Bloodhounds will host #6 Lehman College on Tuesday, April 5, in the CUNYAC Quarterfinals at 6:00 pm at the Doghouse.
