The women's volleyball team suffered two losses in their season opener on Saturday afternoon. The Bloodhounds fell to Manhattanville, 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-9), and William Paterson, 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-19). 

In the match against the Valiants of Manhattanville, senior Katrina Zapanta recorded a double-double with a team-high 16 assists and 10 digs. Junior Rachel Eng fell one kill shy of a double-double with a team-high nine kills, a team-high 13 digs, and a team-high two service aces. Senior Jeanette Luna finished with four kills and eight digs. Freshman Kimberly Rodriguez had eight digs in her first collegiate match. 

Against the Pioneers of William Paterson, Luna led the Bloodhounds with a double-double with a team-high 11 kills and 10 digs. Zapanta dished out a team-high 29 assists to go along with eight digs. Eng registered six kills and a team-high 18 kills. Junior Savannah Davis added four kills, eight digs, and two aces. 

For the day, John Jay totaled 51 kills, 49 assists, seven service aces, and 106 digs. 

The Bloodhounds host Brooklyn College in their home opener on Thursday, September 8, at 6:00 pm at the Doghouse.
